to save bandwidth, it should be possible - and as simple as possible - to define locally (eg. on the LAN) one or two proxy workstations for updates.
in the same spirit of economy, the unused disk space (generally substantial) of each workstation of an entity (made up of a large number of workstations) should be used by a distributed file system on which a local backup can be made.
