I started mcr.town to see if there was an appetite for it and I think I've conclusively proven that there isn't!

Unlike Mastodon, where I believe local-based instances are a great idea for all sorts of reasons, it doesn't really make as much sense on Lemmy where a local sub on any server will do just as well.

There aren't any (non-bot and non-me) accounts on here so I don't feel the need to keep things running for any length of time but please let me know if I'm wrong there!

Finally, this doesn't affect my plans for mcr.wtf in any way at all. On the contrary, I intend to focus more effort there. I love that little instance and the people on it!

This instance (and ![email protected]) will cease to exist at some point in the next few days.

I noticed the new logo is a duck. Are ducks, then, allowed here?

I was going to add a photo of some ducks but couldn't find any. I just took this photo of baby swans this afternoon though!

Anyone in, from or interested in Greater Manchester?

I guess this will be more difficult now that the Reddit sub is back online but I've set up a Manchester group at [email protected] - please feel free to come along, post stuff and have fun!

You might notice it's on a Manchester-based instance too (mcr.town) - feel free to join that too. It's a sibling site to our small (but active enough) Mastodon site (mcr.wtf) which is also open to new people

I know there's more than one Manchester community set up on the threadiverse (as I've heard it called) already but I've yet to see a single post on either of them, yet.

I'm sure this might befall the same fate but it feels the like best home for a Manchester community is in a Manchester instance.

So feel free to post your Manchester news, thoughts, questions and let's build something!

I'm using the ansible setup from the Lemmy docs which is working great but I'm concerned I'm going to use disk space quickly.

I can see that pict-rs supports S3 style storage. I'd like to switch to the Wasabi I already have working well with Mastodon. Is there a decent guide for how to configure this anywhere? I've searched but can't find anything.
