Nvidia prepares to support struggling data centres as AI deals collapse

Reply in thread

Fractional investment. nVidia invests $1bn for 10% of your company, you use that valuation to get another $3bn in loans and then use the money to put on a party and show your product off to lure in someone who is willing to invest $2bn for 5% of you company.

You haven't got a working product, but your company has raised $6bn in capital/debt and you have a valuation over $40bn. You spend the $6bn on hardware from nVidia and others, propping up their share price. They invest it back in your business too. Boosting your valuation some more.

No real money has traded hands, and you've just been given hardware in exchange for a portion of your business.

If your business fails, nVidia and your other investors are left holding the bag...

Jolla Phone 2 & Sailfish OS: A Real Third Option

Reply in thread

Hide behind "dismissing GrapheneOS fanboys" all you want, but the points raised about SailfishOS being proprietary are valid. It is the same as running Samsung's OneUI, or Google's Android - the underlying core is FOSS but the layer with access to all your data is proprietary.

For the record I don't use GrapheneOS.

PlayStation Wants To Prove In Court That You Don't Own Your Digital Games

I think in terms of the subscriber access to Xbox GamePass or PlayStation Plus, this is valid. But not for game purchases.

The store purchases have always been about buying a game. If I go to Amazon and buy a thing, it gets shipped to my house and I own it - the experience of adding an item to a cart, viewing the cart, and checking out are the same across game stores, for online and brick and mortar, whether digital and physical goods are being purchased.

If I don't own the item I am buying on the PlayStation store, why the hell am I paying a premium for it? I thought it was because I will always be able to play that game without having to worry about the disc getting scratched and in both cases I would own the item.

Is there a self-hosted Family Link server?

Reply in thread

That only prevents phone connectivity over WiFi. Turning off WiFi and using mobile data bypasses it. Using offline applications and games (or even Plex/Jellyfin etc) can bypass it too.

Family link does more than stop internet access at certain times, it allows setting usage limits by device and by app.
