CBC London has a story with more updates:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/london/police-charge-four-more-people-linked-to-downtown-anti-war-protest-9.6993609

"Lots of folks [at the protest] were concerned about Gaza, and were also concerned about war crimes in Sudan and other places and the fact that Canadian war merchants, death merchants, are arming them," Heap said.

"I think the police response is overreaching, and that's because they're trying to intimidate people from standing against war industries ... more generally, and it won't work," he said.

Other chapters in Answering Hasbara provide context and advice on discussing topics like "But Israel Is so Diverse!", and "But Hamas!"

Every chapter is extremely well researched and rooted in Kern's own experience. There are many dives into historical context. I had no idea that the reason wizards have pointy hats has origins in anti-Jewish hate!

In part 1 Kern briefly explains how they became a pro-Palestine influencer.

The bulk of the book is part 2: Answering Hasbara starting with a chapter on ways to respond to the question "Who Are You to Speak on Israel?".

This chapter highlights critiques of "deference politics" by philosopher Olúfẹ́mi O. Táíwò in the book Elite Capture.

The chapter on "Criticizing Israel is Antisemitic" is one of the longest and most detailed. In it Kern discusses why they, as a former anti-antisemitism educator, has stopped using the word "antisemitism". They explore the history of the term, first widely used by racists to describe their own hatred of Jewish people.

Kern also confronts the ways that Zionism is an anti-Jewish hate movement.

A great analysis of why liberal socialist universality (anti woke left) will not liberate us, flattens the class war, hampers solidarity, and, worse, is now also a footsoldier of fascism.

@[email protected] Excellent analysis, thank you for linking this.

The article is also a great read:

https://newintermag.com/universalism-and-the-anti-woke/

'The right have set the terms and woke is anything a fascist doesn’t like. Like the liberals, these socialist critics of woke are trapped in a failing reformism. The only correct socialist response to “the death of woke” is therefore not celebration, but solidarity.'
