Getting news of your favorite free software releasing can be a pain if said software isn't a part of your standard update mechanism. However, most software forges have means of providing feeds to mitigate that. Today, we look at Codeberg, based off of Forgejo.

And it's a rather simple affair. The repository page has an RSS button. The button is a link to the .rss of the repo, which makes it also rather easy to add to feed readers.

Let's use Forgejo itself (https://codeberg.org/forgejo/forgejo) as the example for this. If you hover over the RSS feed button, you see that it points to https://codeberg.org/forgejo/forgejo.rss. Seeing as Forgejo powers Codeberg, it would be safe to assume any Forgejo-powered forges offer the same functionality.

Edit: It would be safe to assume GOGS and Gitea offer the same as well, as Forgejo is a third generation fork.

If many of you use open source software that isn't bundled in a package repo or using a corporate OS, sometimes being informed of a new release of your favorite program is a hassle. However, most software forges do have a way to access the Releases feed.

Today, we look at GitHub's Release Feed. GitHub uses the Atom feed format for its release pages and the Releases page itself generates the feed. The best way to access it is going to the Releases page for a project you follow. Copy the URL from your browser and drop it into your feedreader. Attach '.atom' to the end of the URL and save.

For example, for the mobile RSS reeder ReadYou, the URL looks like https://github.com/ReadYouApp/ReadYou/releases.atom

Now you are subscribed to the Releases Feed of your favorite software project in a central place.

A Way With Words is a public radio show and podcast focused on English Etymology. The two hosts provide their insight on words given to them by listeners of the show.

YourClassical is a service of Minnesota Public Radio, offering a variety of classical music internet radio streams for all who enjoy the style of music, ranging from the classical big orchestral pieces, epic cinematic masterpieces, classical guitar pieces, choral music, all the way to soft serenades for that moment when you are about to doze off.

Among many of their podcasts, they offer a Daily Download during the weekdays, allowing you to build your library from their selection.

Standard Ebooks is a group that is dedicated to providing an off-the-shelf experience for books in the public domain. Taking Project Gutenberg releases, they apply a strict style guide, which includes a professional looking cover, typographic choices, and other options that make it stand out from the basic work done by PG, and then put the book available on their website, free for the public to download. Their public RSS feed is a list of the latest releases they have finalized and put online.

OverClocked ReMix (OCReMix) has been a staple of the nerd remixing community for ages, providing fresh takes to popular video game music. For years, they keep a running RSS with the latest ten tracks they approve and post.

This extension shows a list of feeds if said feeds are listed in the HTML available to the browser, but not known to users.

I am a former employee of the company. When I started, it was a small operation out of Bellevue, NE being sold by the founder to a pair of investors in Minnesota. For a time, things were alright until the company was sold off to Deluxe. Deluxe did nothing for the brand and in fact let it get worse by not doing anything. Currently, their old Hyper-V Cluster is having some issues, has been for almost half a month. And guess what, someone's dragging their feet to get it fixed. All while corporate chases AI to sell to customers. It's a dumpster fire. Stay away.

It's been a while since I dusted off Haiku and gave it a shot at customization. After poking and prodding a bit, I am rather pleased with this one -

Using an image from the Unsplash package. Replicants on the desktop are the Activity Monitor meters, Weather (from the package repository) and WordClock (from the package repository). Within the Deskbar, there is WebWatch.

UI font is Montserrat, installed globally outside of packages.

I know it's not as busy as some screenshots, but I figured with the Replicants on the desktop, it's not as bare, as they are technically programs without borders.
