You had me until the last sentence. There are a lot of deeply misguided—and plain fucking stupid—reasons that circumcision has become seen as the 'norm' in the US, but I don't think it's how the American people takes its aggression out on men?? That's a pretty unhinged thing to think. I understand the anger and frustration at genital mutilation of babies (bc that's what it is, in my opinion), but let's come back to earth a bit.

EDIT: since this comment is getting attention, I just wanted to add that it really does seem like people are waking up to how fucked circumcision is. We just had a baby, and as part of our stack of information brochures given to us by the hospital (in Oklahoma, a deeply red state), there was a whole page dedicated to circumcision pros and cons. You could tell it heavily favored not circumcising, and preserving bodily autonomy was it's own full bullet point on the cons side, as well as busting myths that people perpetuate trying to justify it still.

Also, in our infant care courses, they showed some really awful pictures of freshly-circumcised baby penises. We had already decided not to circumcise for obvious moral reasons, but that made us feel even more secure in our decision. I feel like more parents need to see that stuff to make them realize what's actually going to be done to their baby with the procedure.

All that to say, I think there's hope for decreasing the occurrences of this deeply awful cultural practice!

YouTube diluting my recommended videos feed with AI-generated “music” that pretends to be made by an actual artist

So tangential storytime: my husband recently discovered one of these channels (not sure if it's this one or just a similar one), and specifically this goddamned song called "I glued my balls to my butthole again." He will. Not. Stop. Playing it. He thinks it's fucking hilarious, especially the more I roll my eyes.

Anyway, yes these channels are a blight, something needs to be done about them, and if anyone needs a husband they can find mine on the curb blasting that song on a loop lmao

Developers blast the celeb-laden Game Awards as 'an embarrassing indictment of a segment of the industry desperate for validation… with little respect for the devs'

Honestly, good. Should have given them more time instead of Hollywood celebrities that, frankly, seemed embarrassed to be there. People watch the game awards to hear about gaming, not listen to Simu Liu, Matthew McConaughey, and Jordan Peele monologue with awkward jokes.

I wanna listen to the people I voted for talk about the projects they love and worked so hard on. That was a huge moment for the winners, and they were just shooed offstage like they were randos no one cared about. What a way to sour their moment.

Do you know that the KKK would disperse & never come back when would-be victims armed themselves and shot at them? A big element in the civil rights movement was vets coming back from the world wars with combat experience and firing back on their oppressors. Those are stories that get lost in the pEaCefUL pRoTeST propaganda, but arming up and defending their communities was a huge piece of the black civil liberties movement.

Anyway, point is, turns out people who hide behind masks to commit terroristic acts are truly, deeply chickenshit. I'm willing to bet ICE would do the exact same thing as the KKK if fired back upon.

Girl Talk

Erase the last thought bubble and replace it with "It was nice to run into her, she's so sweet," and you'll have something a bit more realistic and less incel-y lmao.

Women do actually like each other 🙄

Make dinosaurs weirder

So tired of this meme, especially in a science themed sub. It's just wrong and thusly promotes disinformation because it takes seconds to read a meme like this and move on without question. Meanwhile it takes (comparitavely) ages to actually research how fossils are reconstructed. If people even think to research it in the first place, because, hey, it's in a science-based sub, right??

Remember kids, the best memes are those based on truth 😎

wtf

I mean, the ability to run long distances without tiring is kind of what makes humans an apex predator. We can out-endurance just about every other creature. Most ancient human hunting techniques involved just wounding an animal, and then literally chasing it until it got too tired to keep going.

Wolves are very similar, which is what made us such natural hunting companions. The co-evolution of humans and dogs is an extremely interesting rabbit hole, if anyone is looking for one.

All that to say, the wolf would understand the need to run more than just about any other animal. A bear would work better here. A wolf would just see us running and think 'game recognizes game', just like they already did eons ago :3

It looks like fabric scraps roughly stuffed with fluff. With a little help/guidance, a five year old could definitely make this. Working with needle and thread isn't some archaic lost knowledge, lol. I've found that if we have faith in them and let them try stuff, kids can do all kinds of stuff we don't think they should be able to.

Hahaha "innocent". Ever had life saving medicine or treatment for you or a loved one denied by the insurance company? You will, one day. And that's not me wishing you ill, that's just how wide spread and devastating this issue is. Inevitably it will happen to you. Maybe you won't think these people are so innocent then.

The Game Awards announces its 2023 nominees

I feel like Baldur's Gate definitely deserves it, hands down, no contest. Unfortunately I think Tears of the Kingdom will win simply because more people probably played it who never played, or would even consider playing, Baldur's Gate because it's not a "mainstream" big-name-company AAA release.

The cycle

Fun fact, licking can be a sign of dominance in cats. So when they lick you while biting or wrestling, they may not be trying to make amends!

Working in fast food is pretty different from full restaurants. I worked fast food first, never heard the term until I started waiting tables a few years later. In fast food, there's not as much of a chain of communication that requires pass phrases to get info across quickly. Just one kid with an order terminal and another kid assembling the order as it was entered.

All of that aside, if I hear someone use that term IRL, it does tend to sound pretentious because you're basically using jargon outside of its typical area of use and expecting everyone to know wtf you're talking about. It's almost like you want someone to ask, so you can be like "you don't kNoW???"

Probably people don't mean to come off that way, but that is the vibe I catch most of the time.
