Meet SP, the most elusive of the kittens!

Although we caught her on the day Lil' T came home from her surgery, she is just now getting brave enough to eat and play in the open with a human audience.

While we befriended the family of strays over the past two months, S.P. was the one who would let me get closest and actually touch her.

At first, I thought her short visit to the vet (she has a good heartbeat and is about 5 months old) traumatized her into being extra skittish, and then I realized she's probably what the vet calls my big old man: "food-driven". That is, she's a hungry girl and didn't gaf that I touched her so long as she was getting to eat.

Meeting back up with her sister was no problem. We believe she and Lil' T are pair bonded --- shortly after letting them in the same room with their carriers open, S.P. was snuggling with and getting groomed by her sister. (Sorry, having trouble adding inline images for some reason)

When we moved the kittens to the bedroom, S.P. moved into a drawer under my bed, followed by my sock drawer. We looked for an hour when she was hiding in there, because I didn't think she could actually get in without thumbs.

Today, she likes to hang with T on a blanket in a drawer under my bed, and likes to get pets while hidden. She also likes to try to groom my hand lol

I wanted to post about this saga as it has unfolded, but between work, being sick as hell, and getting hit by the cat distribution system, I wasn't able. So, here's part one:

At the beginning of summer, a mama cat appeared with her three kittens, presumably to snack on the food the neighbors leave out for our friendly TSR stray who has lived in the neighborhood for over a decade.

Around two months ago, Madame Goosehorse set about taming the new outdoor kitties with plans to catch and spay them, and adopt out the kittens.

Fast-forward to Friday before last. I had a little cry in the kitchen about the Friendly Neighborhood Stray that I hadn't seen in a week, amidst a heatwave --- the neighbor and I had just conferred about this and also one of the kittens who had disappeared.

KB (mentioned in a previous post, my old man with diabetes who went missing for two years) and I went out for a walk that evening when Friendly Neighborhood Stray returned! I was ecstatic, but close behind, little kitten T came hobbling up. I could tell something was wrong.

The poor baby had a busted leg, and I had to head to work. I asked the neighbors to help and told them I would take her in to the vet and cover the bills.

The neighbors managed to catch the kitten not long after I got to work, and I took her to the vet as soon as I was able to get in touch with their emergency line on Saturday morning. On Monday, they had to remove her leg, and Tuesday she came home to live in my bathroom.

The picture above is from the following morning, so we made fast friends and she has been recovering well ever since!

Woke up this morning to my work calendar app** with an "updated" UI.

A few months ago, they reverted a change that had made event names totally unreadable on mobile. Apparently, people complained that event names still weren't readable, so instead of implementing different view options (monthly, weekly, etc), it appears that their UX/UI team hit the crack pipe and decided to axe the month view altogether for mobile users.

No thanks, I don't want to "scroll in any direction across the calendar to view [my] events", I want to see what I have coming up later this week and for the next few weeks at a glance.

**I scrubbed the logo because this is (presumably) a small company with a specialized product for the industry I'm in. I scrolled back to December for the screenshot so as to not doxx myself with events from my work schedule.

Edit: The excellent help desk person passed along my complaint and sent word that they put in a toggle to allow for the full, 7-week calendar view. They got it fixed within a day!

My cat disappeared Thanksgiving 2022.

We searched for months, putting fliers all over town, enlisting the local rescue organization to help us set out cameras, and so forth. Went through so many false alarms over the following months, but no luck finding him.

After his siblings died last year, my housemate and I adopted another cat, and unfortunately, she passed away at their new house a few days ago.

My friend and former housemate had been considering adopting a second cat anyway, so he hopped on Facebook to check out the local rescue org's page.

A few posts down, he found my boy had been boarded at a local vet's office after the elderly couple who had been taking care of him for the past year was no longer able.

This vet normally gives cats a week, but since my boy is so sweet, they gave him three. I picked him up yesterday, on the last day of the last week.

Reunited after two years, and I'm still in shock.
