[Wristwatches] How a $260 plastic watch pissed off the entire watch community
I don’t have much to say about watches but THANK YOU for bringing hobby drama to the fediverse!

What do you NOT want to see replicated on kbin?
Calling a community [x]Porn that's just SFW high-quality photos of something (eg EarthPorn, RoomPorn, etc). Leave that naming convention in the 2010s.

Well, it happened a bit earlier than I expected but I'm officially here now. Hello friends 👋

It also includes a "home instance" feature so any links you copy will be /m/ instead of /c/

Could we get official word on what Kbin's stance is towards federating with Meta?

I thought we defederated with nsfw because of technical issues with nsfw images not being blurred properly, not the rules issue?

Be a better ~~lemming~~ Motorhead
Counterpoint: a lot of people on Reddit complain about “you’re just downvoting because you disagree with me” when they’re being downvoted for spreading misinformation, being unnecessarily hostile or condescending or holier-than-thou, posting blatant dogwhistles, or sealioning.
I’d rather see people in general take a step back and stop taking downvotes so personally. You will get downvoted sometimes. It’s not always an ideological attack.

Is there any kbin instance that is seriously considering defederating Meta/Threads?
Reply in thread
Yep, and if Threads is enforcing the same TOS as Instagram, there’s no way that Meta is going to open the doors to the fediverse in general. I expect that when Meta does enable federation, it will be with a small number of vetted servers that agree to follow their TOS as well.
I understand people’s concerns with Threads, and don’t want to touch it with a ten foot pole myself, but a lot of the reaction posts are sensationalized.

No Instagram Threads app in the EU: Irish DPC says Meta's new Twitter rival won't be launched here
The new Threads platform is designed to import data from Instagram, including behavioural and advertising information.
In its US format, the platform tells users that it will collect a wide variety of data from users, including health, financial information, browsing histories, location, purchases, contacts, search history and sensitive information.
In the EU, the Irish regulator has prevented Meta from launching advertising services on Whatsapp that uses data from Facebook or Instagram. The tech giant is allowed to mingle the two data streams in the US, which has weaker privacy laws.
It is unclear when, or if, Meta will launch Threads in Ireland and the EU. A spokesperson for Meta was unavailable to comment on the matter.
However, it is understood that the DPC has not actively blocked the service. Instead, the tech giant has not yet prepared the service for a European launch outside the UK, which is not fully governed by GDPR or EU privacy rules.

Seems like you didn't really understand my point. Meta is very averse to, for example, any NSFW content, or using words that aren't G-rated to talk about other people. I do not think there will be a slow creep of Meta federating with server by server, because I do not think 99% of servers are willing to abide by those restrictions. If you want me to make up numbers, I think Meta will federate with 10 servers, at most, and that's it.
The other part of the equation, from what I understand, is authorized fetch. If servers implement that, that prevents Threads from accessing their content from a middle-man server if defederated.
So no, I don't want to federate with them. But I also think that writing off kbin because Ernest hasn't already defederated is a premature, knee-jerk reaction.

You can't post ass, Threads is doomed
Threads is setting itself up to be a sanitized version of Twitter that employs the most mundane features of the platform while stifling the posting culture that made Twitter so unique. The users who make Twitter fun, and build the sense of community that defined the platform at its peak, will likely be flagged for violating one of Instagram’s archaic community guidelines if they bring the same energy to Threads.
As if I need even more reasons to avoid Threads...

Is there a way to filter out a specific word from my feed? Like a tampermonkey script or something?
I'm working on one. Currently I have Enough about Reddit already which filters out reddit-related words. If you're comfortable editing a script, you could add your own words to the blacklist.
