Smith Goes Full MAGA Right Wing on Hate Speech | The Tyee

"'In Alberta we believe in free speech. Full stop.'

So says Alberta’s premier, Danielle Smith.

And it’s true... sort of.

We absolutely believe in free speech here in Wild Rose Country... except when we don’t. And there are no exceptions, ever... except when there are.

Well, you’ve got to hand it to Ms. Smith, she has chutzpah — famously defined by American humourist Leo Rosten as 'that quality enshrined in a man who, having killed his mother and father, throws himself on the mercy of the court because he is an orphan.'

Smith made the comment quoted above in a little video widely circulated online Tuesday, apparently in response to another short video, posted by the Edmonton Police Service, encouraging members of the public to report incidents of hate..."

Medicine Hat’s Big Marble Go Centre becomes Alberta’s first sensory-inclusive recreation centre

"The Big Marble Go Centre in Medicine Hat has become the first recreation centre in Alberta to earn KultureCity’s Sensory Inclusive certification, a designation aimed at improving accessibility for people with sensory sensitivities.

The certification comes just five days before the facility and various locations host athletes and visitors during the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games, scheduled for Aug. 11 to 15.

To achieve the designation, 85 Big Marble Go Centre staff members completed specialized training developed by medical and neurodivergent professionals on recognizing guests with sensory needs and responding to sensory overload situations.

The City of Medicine Hat says additional staff training will continue."

Medicine Hat to demolish two deteriorating buildings along Kipling Street SE

"The City of Medicine Hat is preparing to demolish two unused buildings along Kipling Street Southeast after the structures deteriorated to the point where they pose a public safety concern.

The buildings, located at 345 Kipling Street Southeast, were previously used as a locomotive storage building and a salt shed.

The City says demolition is now required to address the condition of the aging structures.

Work is scheduled to take place from August 10 to 12, with crews completing the demolition as weather permits.

During the demolition process, a section of the trail running along the south side of the site will be closed to the public."

Why Gas City Campground is Opening Six Weeks Early This Year

"Usually we open the last Friday of April, but we decided to try opening earlier and just see if we get any campers in. We're practically booked to full capacity for most of the season, so it's actually tough to increase bookings year over year.

If you drove past the Gas City Campground this morning, you might have noticed something unusual for early April: trailers are already unhooking and campfires are starting to crackle.

In a major shift for local tourism, Medicine Hat has officially moved its camping season up by nearly six weeks. Traditionally, the gates at Gas City didn't swing open until the final Friday of April. This year, the city pulled the trigger on an April 6 opening, and the reason is a mix of changing climate and local demand..."

Medicine Hat teen looks to create environmental impact with her SMART roof project

Fourteen-year old Echo Moreton said black roof shingles absorb the sun’s energy to help melt snow off a roof in winter.

In the summer months that heat absorption isn’t beneficial, which is why she created shingles that change colour to white when reaching 26 degrees celsius.
