[@NBA] NBA IN-SEASON TOURNAMENT EXPLAINED 🎥

Why is everyone so actively negative about this? I get not caring at all, but there's clearly more than that. If you don't like this tournament...just pretend they're regular season games and nothing changes. If you already don't watch regular season games... keep not watching regular season games and nothing changes.

NBA Free Agency Thread

Cavs Free Agency

UFA Georges Niang (3/26) - I'm assuming we used 8.5 of the MLE on this contract

Sign and trade Max Strus (4/63) for Cedi Osman and Lamar Stevens

Caris Lavert re-upped on a 2 year 32 mil contract.

Pretty happy with these moves so far considering we didn't have a lot of assets or any cap room available. Sad to see Cedi and Lamar go, but you have to give up something to get something.

[Fedor] Cavs have not had any discussions about trading All-Star point guard Darius Garland and don’t intend to move him

Reply in thread

This is complete non-news. The Cavs front office has been very clear that Darius Garland and Evan Mobley are absolutely untouchable and in no world has Darius been on the trade block to begin with. Let alone for there to be news that he's not on the trade block.

In other news, The Nuggets have not had any discussions about trading MVP Center Nikola Jokic and don't intend to move him.

NBA reveals long-awaited format, groups for new in-season tournament

500k each for the winners all the way down to 50k for the 8th place team will no doubt bring out some good competition. That's some pretty nice dough even for the max contract guys. Who doesn't want an extra 50k of pocket change? Especially going forward when the 5th place team sees other guys getting hundreds of thousands more than them, that'll no doubt bring out the competitive spirit in a lot of guys.

East Group B is looking to be a bloodbath, same with West Group A.

I wonder if scheduling will cause any weird issues like playing a team 5 times or an intraconference team only twice. I suppose you could have games later in the season against team A or team B depending on who of your group went on to the knockout stage.

[MacMahon] Jordan Clarkson’s salaries in his renegotiation/extension deal with the Jazz: 2023-24: $23.5M 2024-25: $14.1M 2025-26: $14.3M. Deal also includes a total of $1.1M in incentives.

Maybe you can't with Max contracts due to the max cap % you can pay out and then the annual raise restrictions and all that, but you always could with sub max contracts. You can also just split up the contract evenly, like Jarrett Allen's deal. He gets 100 mil for 5 years and every year he gets 20 mil. Which is in practice a regressive contract where his % cap hit decreases year over year.

What you said is interesting in that it doesn't seem to happen that often, where you could butt up against the cap one year, get relief for future years with a regressive contract. Maybe it's just the belief in kicking the can down the road and counting on cap increases while maximizing current rosters.

[Reynolds] Strus agrees to $63M deal and heads to Cleveland after helping Miami make finals, AP sources say

I'm definitely concerned that our biggest weakness is SF and we traded 2 rotation SF's for what appears to be a shooting guard (who is probably 3rd on the depth chart behind Donovan and Caris, unless he gets traded). Can Strus play the 3? And does he play defense? I definitely don't know much about him, so I'd love to have any incorrect assumptions pointed out.

I'm liking the Cavs group. Philly is a real threat but I truly think our guys can take that group.

Additionally, Copy and pasted from the NBA thread:
