Wintertijd komt er weer aan
Dank! Normaal heeft de NOS wel een waarschuwing volgens mij, maar dit jaar nog niks erover gezien.
Goeie ASCII art ook.

Mozilla removes uBlock Origin Lite from Addon store. Developer stops developing Lite for Firefox; "it's worrisome what could happen to uBO in the future."
Appears to be a mistake, but needs gorhill to appeal to make the reviewer aware of the mistake and to be able to fix it, which he doesn't feel like doing because he thinks it's unlikely to have been a mistake.
Update: now reversed, but gorhill removed it himself just to not have to deal with the review process and the possibility of human error anymore.

Is TypeScript a fad or is my manager delusional?
If TypeScript still is a fad at this point, his definition of fad is far lengthier than mine is.
I'm fairly sure TypeScript will remain in popular use longer than whatever project you're working on 😅

They've committed to not changing any displayed text ("strings"), so that translators have time to translate everything.

Street-Complete, like Pokemon Go but for good.
I'll always upvote StreetComplete.

One Of The Rust Linux Kernel Maintainers Steps Down - Cites "Nontechnical Nonsense"
Reply in thread
This sounds exactly like the type of nontechnical nonsense they're complaining about: attacking a strawman ("they're trying to prevent people from refactoring C code and making them rewrite everything in the current fancy language") even after explicitly calling out that that was not going to happen ("and to reiterate, no one is trying force anyone else to learn Rust nor prevent refactorings of C code").

EU Parliament votes to restrict 'steak' and 'burger' labels to meat only
Reply in thread
I mean, it'll be harder to search for "burger" on my supermarket's website to find vegetarian alternatives to burgers. They'll get more expensive because they have to relabel things. And my EP representatives have to waste their time on this instead of important issues.

As a child it's so hard to know what is actually bad and what your parents don't really care about.

The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans
Honestly the biggest takeaway for me is that apparently, they talk like this in private as well. In other words, they do seem to actually believe what they say. Or at least believe that they have to keep up appearances to each other.

I think "You do now." probably works better than "Now you have one!" It feels more threatening.

That person in the audience was really grinding my gears. Just let the folks you're talking to answer you; no need to keep going on your diatribe when it's based on a false assumption and waste the whole room's time.

I can see people not necessarily wanting suggestions for tab group names, but... The rest of the list is translations and alt text suggestions for images added to PDFs. The most uncontroversial AI features if ever there were any.
I really don't care for this urge to advertise "AI" everywhere. I also don't care much for the knee-jerk reaction just because someone calls something AI.

How Far Right Riots in the UK Were Likely Fueled by Russian Fake News
Even if the murderer had been a Muslim and/or refugee, that would not have justified the violence used.
