It took decades, but San Francisco finally installs nets to stop suicides off Golden Gate Bridge

Reply in thread

Might be intentional. If it was closer/less of a drop, it might just become "another handrail" where the "oh shit I don't want to do this" doesn't happen until after you jump off the net. By making it such a big drop, you increase the chances of that realization happening first, and if the net causes an injury, that might also stop the person from making it to the edge of the net and going over.

Basically, by making it a big drop it's become a bigger obstacle, which could increase effectiveness.

Americans can no longer afford their cars

Reply in thread

Have you looked recently? For the past few years buying new was actually cheaper than buying used, and factoring in manufacturer subsidized interest rates, the difference in the current market still makes new a viable option, unless you're looking at 10+ year old cars (which still start north of $10k these days).

I spent years and years putting in conscious effort to get to a place where I can accept myself as I am. It’s a journey that has been very worthwhile.

It's a crazy journey going from self-loathing to the point where now I check myself out in the mirror. I even used to hate my name, but now I slap that shit on everything, and don't even abbreviate in a professional environment.

Took a lot of years and a lot of work, but definitely worth it.

My recovery was honestly pretty bad. I was bed-ridden for about 2 weeks, then 8-ish months of aching pain all day every day. Not actually sure when it finally cleared up, I just realized I hadn't felt the pain in a while. My first nut was about a month after the procedure, and that was also a very unpleasant experience.

My case is abnormal, but even more rare is the guys that continue to be in pain for the rest of their lives. Didn't find out about that until I started digging deeper because of my persistent pain.

That said, I still 100% recommend getting it done.

I think 150k (ish) in my city would be solidly middle class. You could buy a house/car/retire on that.

I'm in a super weird spot, because I make good enough money that I have savings to support me after job loss, and I make enough money that I don't really have to worry about my grocery bill (within reason). Heck, there's even a chance that I'll be able to have a decent retirement.

But a house? Not happening. New car? No chance. Even eating out every week isn't viable. And even what I have is only because I have a pretty sweet rent situation.

I mean, depends on the frozen pizza. 99% of them are worse, but there's one brand I get at wally world for like $7 a pizza that is better than 99% of the pizza I can order (and we have some pretty solid pizza joints around here).

Had to quit getting them though because they're like 6000 kcal.

No designers involved, unless you think Elon is a designer. The whole Tesla design studio revolted over having to work on it. They designed something else, which of course Elon refused. I wouldn't at all be surprised if it was engineered so the other option can be swapped in when this one flops.
