First VPS — Is 54 SSH bans in 12 hours normal?
So it's my first time setting up a VPS. Is it to be expected to ban 54 IPs over a 12h timespan? The real question for me is whether this is normal or too much.
$ sudo fail2ban-client status sshd
Status for the jail: sshd
|- Filter
| |- Currently failed: 3
| |- Total failed: 586
| `- Journal matches: _SYSTEMD_UNIT=ssh.service + _COMM=sshd
`- Actions
|- Currently banned: 51
|- Total banned: 54
`- Banned IP list: [list of IPs]
fail2ban sshd.conf
$ sudo cat /etc/fail2ban/jail.d/sshd.conf
[sshd]
enabled = true
mode = aggressive
port = ssh
backend = systemd
maxretry = 3
findtime = 600
bantime = 86400
I have disabled SSH login via password. And only allow it over an SSH key.
$ sudo sshd -T | grep -E -i 'ChallengeResponseAuthentication|PasswordAuthentication|UsePAM|PermitRootLogin'
usepam no
permitrootlogin no
passwordauthentication no
looking for a foss mood tracker on android
cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ml/post/46536099
Im looking for a simple foss mood tracker app for android. I looked around but non of the once I found on f-droid or otherwise, had one feature that I would really like.
I would like to be asked 3 times a day (morning, noon, evening) for my mood with push reminders and answer on a simple scale. Maybe 1-5 or 3 arrows (up, middle, down).
Does any one have a suggestion?
In search for a new self-hosted LLM

Hey :) For a while now I use gpt-oss-20b on my home lab for lightweight coding tasks and some automation. I'm not so up to date with the current self-hosted LLMs and since the model I'm using was released at the beginning of August 2025 (From an LLM development perspective, it feels like an eternity to me) I just wanted to use the collective wisdom of lemmy to maybe replace my model with something better out there.
Edit:
Specs:
GPU: RTX 3060 (12GB vRAM)
RAM: 64 GB
gpt-oss-20b does not fit into the vRAM completely but it partially offloaded and is reasonably fast (enough for me)

Happy π-Day!
This year I celebrate by eating my PI(e) with an cinamon PI-coffe and watching Pi (1998) with my PIthon
Disable screen locking if external screen is connected
I run Debian 12 with KDE on my laptop. It is set up, that it locks the screen after 10 mins of inactivity. And that is typically want I want. But some times I use it with an external screen like a TV over HDMI to watch some videos, and forget to overwrite the setting to not lock the screen.
Is there some way to not lock the screen when connected to an external screen (and preferably to AC) but resume the previous behavior if no HDMI connection is made?
Lower part of the screen is updated one frame earlier. Signal source: HDMI
The lower part of my screen is updated one frame earlier than the upper part. I was able to isolate the error to the HDMI output of my laptop. The screen or cable is not broken, as I don't get these errors with other connected devices. I am assuming it is some hardware defect. Does anyone know what it could be and how I could fix it? Here are a few pictures that show the problem: pixelfed
Solved: Ok, it seems to have been a software problem. That had to do with the sync. I have installed ubuntu on the laptop for now and everything works again. Some update seems to have shot something. I am now using a
