I don't believe Switzerland is a Nordic country, but +1 for Proton here. A lot of their newer products like Drive need a good amount of work, but Mail and VPN are working great for me.

That's fair. It has worked very well for me. Pass has been good too. I would probably use Calendar if they put more work into it, but it's still missing quite a few features. Like others have mentioned, Wallet is a bit of a head-scratcher, but if it could compete with Apple/Google Wallet, I would try it out for sure.

How does the replication work when you self-host? I know their hosted version has backups, but I'm assuming you'd have to set your own up.

Also, have you seen any easy way to move to and/or from their self-hosted version?

To be fair, the Proton Foundation is a non-profit and is the majority shareholder of Proton.

I don't think Qwant and Ecosia's index has fully rolled out. They have been using it as a partial index in France and Germany starting in summer 2025 according to their FAQs on their website. So I guess it would depend where you live.
