San Diego Comic Con just happened. Talk about it.

I attended by sitting in my chair and looking at Whatnot all day, and it only cost me $550. I got lucky and missed Todd McFarlane doing his stream with ComicTom.

With the faces of Hollywood on strike I haven't heard much MCU/DCEU news. Did you catch anything?

As far as comics go, Mrs. Marvel's going to be back to life, just in time for the movies. And she's a mutant now. We are all very surprised. The house of ideas just can't stop zigging when we expect a zag. /s But really, Mrs. Marvel should have been a mutant this entire time. It better fits her themes; from the little I've read of her books. It sounds like she'll still be an Inhuman. The actor that portrays her in Mrs. Marvel and The Marvels, Iman Vellani is co-writing the book. She seems great, I love her enthusiasm for comics. I hope she can write.

Todd McFarlane has his name on another set of new books, mostly related to Spawn. I don't keep up with him all that much, but they were selling fast.

Greg Capullo will be working on Wolverine and a new Deadpool title.

If you're interested, here's an affiliate link to sign up for Whatnot. You get $10 off your first purchase, and I get $10 if you buy something. It's a cool live-auction app; a great place to score deals on comics and video games.

W0rldtr33 is pretty good you guys

W0rldtr33 is a suspense/horror book set in a modern-day, cyberpunk-emphasised world. Some kids find a secret forum on the equivalent of the darknet, and a serial killer begins hunting them.

It also looks like they have an ARG going at [https://www.w0rldtr33.net/](their website).

The series started recently, there are three issues out. The first issue had a recall on a couple of covers because they printed too dark. The main cover depicts a woman sitting on a bed, a corpse laying behind the bed. If the floor/right wall is mostly black, that's a recalled cover. Maybe worth checking out if you're a collector.

This is a mature-rated book. There's a good bit of violence/gore, and nudity. It's published by Image.

Comics Explained putting out spoilers in their youtube titles

Yesterday Hickman's new series dropped, "Ultimate Invasion." I haven't been to my comic shop yet, so I haven't read it. I only know the gist of it from the trailer I posted here the other day.

As I scrolled through youtube the Comics Explained channel popped up with the title ::: spoiler spoiler "Marvel Just Killed Spiderman: Ultimate Invasion" (respect the fucking hyphen, Rob). ::: Now I don't know if it's clickbait. I would totally believe it happened. But the comic is barely 24 hours old.

I get his content is telling people about other content. But jesus dude, wait a week. Steer clear of YouTube until you're caught up on event books, I guess.

Post Karma Does Matter on Lemmy, use your votes accordingly.

TLDR: 3 people working together can gatekeep content on the "active" and "hot" feeds on smaller servers/communities.

After some playing around, I noticed posts disappear after reaching a threshold. A quick search later and I'm in the Lemmy docs reading about how this all works.

In plain English, any three people working together (or one person with three accounts) can stop posts from appearing on the default feed. Once a post reaches -2 it will only appear to people who browse "new." Edit: Of course, it reappears after it climbs above -2, but it's a race against the clock.

As a smaller server, we're vulnerable to this. But we also have some extra mitigations - namely, @[email protected] has to approve everyone who joins, and that might weed out bad actors.

So what can you do? Upvote content liberally, downvote sparingly.
