Do restaurants actually give out QR code menus on request? I've only ever seen them taped to the table or a nearby wall.

Lol, I'm all for FOSS but I don't understand why there are so many Lemmy users shitting on Sync. People should be allowed to pay for software they are comfortable with.
Now that Sync supports Lemmy it will bring more users to the platform, which is what Lemmy needs right now.

Is Rooting still as essential as it used to be?
It depends on the phone. I would probably root a Samsung phone if I had one but my Pixel 6 has everything I want/need so I don't bother.
