Sodom - Sodomized (Blitzkrieg Remix)

The current re-issue of "Get what you deserve" features two remixes of every album song plus several versions from other albums.

I really dig the Blitzkrieg remixes as they are super dry. Especially the vocals sound really untinkered with. Very authentic and well done.

Let's just take this song as an example: https://musiccloud.io//_L14sQXE

Motörhead vibes, Punk and Death Metal in one song.

Savatage - Madness Reigns from the Gutter

Whoa - that's a helluva live album!

Endseeker - Coffin Born

The good men of Endseeker call it quits, however released an EP for a proper goodbye.

I always found the music very entertaining. From my point of view it's rooted in Swedish DM (Entombed), but they added their unique touch to it.

And they do crazy cover versions. 🙂

Sometimes my brain stubbornly suggests I dig deep in the crates for an old song I haven't listened to in years. These days it was "Reality - When you die" by GOREFEST.

https://song.link/t/108034256

A brooding, dynamic, versatile and for the time it was recorded a bit unusual death metal piece by this great Dutch group.

Khemmis - Invocation of the Dreamer

The opener of the coming album. Sounds promising to me - kind of a more Heavy Metal version of While Heaven Wept.

Elder - Through Zero

The orange vinyl gatefold was delivered today, very nicely done with a etched side D.

The music is a very melodic mix of prog metal and krautrock. There are also vibes of the current Deftones album sometimes (in Capture/Release).

The six track album's hit IMO is the title track, which you can find here: https://tidal.com/track/518329889/u

Great immersive record that works well on headphones, but also on speakers as the guitars are always present.

Lunar Shadow - The Pall of a past World

I really like the opener, however the whole album is a truly immersive journey. Epic metal with a touch of Maiden and Trouble. Melancholic and playful. Great record!

A really valuable contribution to the current wave of more traditional Heavy Metal. The music is subtle with only occasional really heavy or fast parts. But it never feels "too little".

If you're in the market for a veritable thrash hit for the weekend look no further. Try Havok's D. O. A. from the album Time is Up.

The second part of this banger is a nod to the legendary Demolition Hammer and really does the job well.

Exodus - Goliath

The new record by Exodus. Still they have the best guitar sound in thrash metal in my opinion.

However Exodus have done better than this collection of new songs. IMO it's a solid recording but it misses the last bit of spicyness. There's just one step missing to insanity. And this insanity is what makes brilliant Exodus albums special to me.

Maybe it's because Zetro left once again?

Anacrusis - Screams and Whispers

Blast from the past by this vastly underrated band. Delicate and sturdy progressive thrash metal, if that is a suitable description to you.

There are several great songs on this album, but 'Grateful' quite sums it up.

Undertow - These Boots are made for Stalking

These guys evolved from being hardly
distinguishable Crowbar sound-a-likes. Nowadays they deliver a fine blend of sludge, groove, hardcore and melody with good lyrics.

Obscura - A Sonication

The newest album of this exceptional Progressive Death Metal band/project recurs to more compact songs than on the former records. Also the overall approach is more melodic.

However with “Sun Eater” you can also find brutally. But IMO it feels a bit out of place on this album.

All songs are great and it is hard to pick a favourite. But I choose “Stardust” https://tidal.com/track/396369829/u

Panzerfaust - The Suns of Perdition Chapter IV

A very dense recording which sparks apocalyptic feelings in me. I first learned about the band when they supported Kanonenfieber, so I’m rather late to the party.

The music is some kind of Black Metal, but not industry standard. To me it feels more like Hell Ambient. I very much dig the arrangement with the two singers, one gnarling, one growling.

Depressive Age - Eternal Twins

Once a very promising German newcomer, Depressive Age released 4 great and versatile albums somewhere between thrash metal and more melodic approaches during the 90s and then vanished.

This track here is a hybrid of thrash, death and some prog.

I can’t find much content on the usual streaming services, however this one’s on Tidal and there is more on YT.

Great and talented band who added a melancholic twist to our favourite genre.

Exumer - Hostile Defiance

I always take a special look at the album openers when I listen to new records. When I discovered this LP, I really liked this one.

A very nice mix from being mean and using melodies as well.

Good thrash band from Germany who failed to start a great career. When the head out in the beginning I should say they were better than Kreator/Sodom at that time.

So what - enjoy: https://tidal.com/browse/track/102941394?u

Agent Steel - Unstoppable Force

Friday night - it’s time for a classic.

Alien-themed speed metal with outstanding vocals. I can understand when the voice is a little too much for some listeners, however IMO Agent Steel wouldn’t be themselves without John Cyriis.

Guitars are magnificent, too. You can still hear the NWOBHM roots (Rager), but also their transition to speed/thrash.

Altogether a blast from the past and a gem from the 80s.

Got myself the vinyl version of the new Coroner album “Dissonance Theory”.

It’s a masterpiece, no less.

Mostly not pure thrash metal anymore, but something as if Pink Floyd would have been influenced by Meshuggah.

Atmospheric. Ripe. Evolved. Grand.

Khirki

IMO one of the best albums of 2024 in the metal scene. Greece’s Khirki deliver it all - melody, speed, originality through Greek folk influences and panache.

My faves are The Watchers of Enoch and Father Wind. Actually there are only really great songs.
