Microsoft admits 8GB RAM is fine for Windows 11, after years of pushing 16GB as the baseline

Reply in thread

That... doesn't make sense. The Windows NT line changed the way hardware and drivers interacted with a new Hardware Abstraction Layer, so a WinME driver wouldn't load in Win11.

Additionally, Win7 changed it so that drivers require certification and signature, which I could guess the certification would come in grandfathered, but the signature certainly wouldn't be there for a WinME driver.

Why even complain about a 300kb driver sitting in System/SysWOW64, as it isn't going to reside in RAM until the actual device is plugged in... so it's actually a good thing to keep. I'm glad they don't act as the arbiter of what is too old and force people to purchase new hardware when the old stuff still works.

I looked at the terms of service and noticed that they bind you into arbitration, limit your terms to $100, mandate you to travel to Delaware for dispute, and force you into mass arbitration if your dispute is similar to others.

At that age I figured out that I could bypass the policy restrictions on my computer by unplugging the Ethernet cable right after login. Gave me full local admin.

A year or so prior to that I figured out that if you viewed IE's temporary internet files and just backspaced your way up, you can access the otherwise restricted C:, where I found other kids had already installed games onto.

No way this works for a full school year.

Why do you still hate Windows?

The "we know better than you" attitude Microsoft has. They've very slowly removed more and more power user functionality. Almost every customization has to be hacked in with a group policy or registry edit now, or by outright replacing explorer.exe

Brave is not a bad browser and nor is Firefox.

No, after Brave installed a service level running VPN without my consent, and continued to reinstall it silently every background update even after removal, it's a bad browser. That's what malware does.

Comparing two companies with poor track records doesn't make them good companies when compared to each other.
