That's insane. I'm no lawyer but I've used the CCPA to get my info removed from a lot of those data-broker sites. It's always immediate, "Okay, we've removed your information." California better hit Reddit hard for this, and Europe too.

Not necessarily by bots, but a lot of product-related articles - say, "What's the best washing machine?" or "What's the best hot wire cutter?" or anything like that - will have multiple near-identical articles across multiple websites with links for each product generating a kickback for the author. Whereas Reddit was just people talking.

Articles like that are probably starting to be written by AI for sure though. You could write an article on every type of product that way, and get kickbacks from all of them, all while depriving people of actual useful info. Woo, innovation!

But I do wish Hello Games hadn't combined Normal / Survival / Creative all into one universe. I preferred playing with other people who were subject to the same constraints as me (even if the PC people could easily circumvent those constraints).

Yep! Every single one of these districts would be under 3,000 parts, so they all fit under the limit. We're using a special glitch to make certain objects way, way larger than is normally possible. This allows us a lot of savings when it comes to building exteriors. The main structure of our buildings are 2 - 4 pieces, where standard build methods might require 200+ pieces or even more to achieve a comparable size.

You're basically describing the concept behind web3, but that's a dirty word now due to greed from capitalists and environmental concerns from... environmentalists. (The environmental concerns being reasonable concerns, but they're often overstated / people think it's all as bad as Bitcoin.) Web3 could've meant seizing the means of entertainment production by the people producing the content. Maybe it still can, but it doesn't look like it.

If you ignore construction guidelines for a colony, we'll ask you to remove the base. If you refuse to remove the base, you'll be removed from the community. If the base is malicious (ie blocking doors, built on top of someone else's base without their approval, etc) we will report the base to Hello Games, and they have a very good response rate of removing those bases.

If that seems a little controlling, you have to understand that this city is being constructed using very specific techniques to minimize rendering issues / lag and provide the best experience for residents. If people start constructing standard bases, not being aware of the techniques we use, it will have a negative impact on everyone who visits the city because it won't load as well.

Plus there's enough room for 170+ people to claim their own apartments, which they can build inside of, and "free building" systems all around this one. So there's no shortage of available space for people to construct whatever they want... I mean... it's a very big game. Just not in this system.

But tbh it's very rarely an issue. We have quite a few colonies where we ask people not to upload new bases. And when it is an issue, it's usually not people trying to do anything disruptive, just people who don't know any better.

As far as I can tell (and I just got here so I might be wrong), Lemmy doesn't have community-specific flairs like reddit does for subreddits. Considering that I think it can all just go on one community, since people would just rely on the search function anyway to browse the category they want.

But if someone does start a separate one I'd be happy to support it, and I'll mention it to the Glyph Exchange people from reddit.

Personally, as someone who has unlocked every single Expedition item legitimately, I think exclusivity culture is lame and dumb. I don't like these things more just because I know other people don't have them. If anything, it makes me feel slightly guilty for using them lmao

Haha I'm just another interloper! I also didn't create No Man's High - that was plasticroyal. I was a moderator there for years, then Reddit admins suspended him. He gave the subreddit to me after that. I offered to give it back to him post-suspension, but he said I could just keep running it.

I personally agree that, especially here on Lemmy with a new start and a community-driven main community, it makes sense to keep things as unified as possible.

Also, something I touched on in the thread about the Glyph Exchange - Lemmy communities don't have specific/exclusive post flairs, unlike subreddits. So most people would depend on the Search function to find old posts, making it actually easier to keep everything in one community vs split across multiple.

Makes me wonder whether I should keep the Galactic Hub stuff in the GH community or post it here too 🤔

It's a brand-new feature! All previous Expeditions required a new save.

The Glyph Exchange mods have confirmed to me that they have no interest in restarting on this website. Not because of anything against Lemmy, but because doing it a 3rd time would be overwhelming for them.

The Coordinate Exchange is the old one run by a mod who did nothing to build the subreddit, then returned after 4 years and kicked out all the mods who actually built the subreddit. If that mod started one here, I would not support it, since his actions are almost like a scaled-down version of Reddit's actions.

So, if we want a Glyph Exchange here, someone will have to volunteer to run it. A lot of people have expressed a desire to see the old fractured Reddit NMS community unified into a single community on Lemmy, and I think that might be wise too. Especially since Lemmy relies on a search function rather than flairs.

I think Hello Games is doing something big behind the scenes. Last Expedition was the worst one so far imo, it was the first one to have ZERO narrative of any kind, 100% just chores and fetch quests. PC received an Experimental update weeks ago that Console still hasn't received. And this next update represents part 4 out of 4 of the Void Mother narrative, the grand finale.

All of that makes me feel like a lot of the core team is working on something else.

So I don't have a direct answer to your question, but I will say, to me, it's another indication that something huge is on the way.
