GrapheneOS: The initial devices with GrapheneOS support should be available in 2027. The initial devices will be flagships so they'll be higher end hardware than Pixels at a higher price.

Thanks.

It seems that

The rule only kicks in on devices that come loaded with Google's own apps and services, known as Google Mobile Services or GMS.

That said, LineageOS flagged one gap worth watching which is if someone sideloads a third-party Google Apps package onto their device, that package could theoretically include the verification system bundled in

I wonder of we'll see more banking (and other) apps lockout ROMs that don't have GMS, or bundle it in when installed on something like gOS.

This might not be your issue but replace the subscriptions you use with FOSS ones.

Windows for Linux. MS365 Office for LibreOffice (although I guess you could say Google docs too). DropBox for Filen (or other services). ... Gameing for retro Roms? Etc.

Theres also lots of foss support for pirating streamed media.

I couldn't belive how many my live at home 18yr old cousin was paying for.

  • hotspot WiFi
  • playataton online
  • game pass to play whatever game
  • Netflix
  • Spotify
  • YT premium
  • ... let alone the mobile plan itself

Could somone ELI5.

When discussing other ROMs I was told ROMs would be dead given that need to keep android open. I took that to mean micro G and many, many, other apps would break due to Devs unwilling (or unable?) to support non play store apps.

How then would gOS continue, especially with a hardware partner? I understand the Google lockdown is upstream so gOS will be in the same boat, with things Accrcent (store) and Vanadium.

Thanks.

Me discussing buying a car has convinced my mother to finally go grapheneOS

I'm glad for the switch. Buuuut it doesn't work like that.

You search cars heavily. You and your Mum have FB/social media. You have Bluetooth or location or WiFi on. Social knows your hanging out and likely to discuss cars. It shows them ads.

A tech podcast did a dive into this. It even works if your partner and mum arnt connected on social media. Imagine your Mum lives interstate. Mum searches plane tickets and is coming in a month, during the time she searches perfumes but doesn't buy. A few days before arrival your partner gets perfume ads from a place nearby. When mum lands she talks about getting perfume. Partner has been primed where to go.

Its insidious. Graphine will help a little but if you use the internet there is still tracking.

My phone carrier requires an app to change plans. I installed it in a separate profile then the next day got ads for it in FB.

We should popularize using the guillotine as a symbol of the common man.

All guillotines are equal. But some are more equal than others.

I had a conversation with a guy who I thoght was on my level. Stand up for racism, stand up for the minority, action things yourself instead of waiting.

Turns out he thinks the Palestinians are racist, the minority was being an ant masker, and his actions are... Well a rsult of those ideas.

Same ideologies different outcomes.
