...The winner is a US citizen who became naturalised in 2023, owns a $5.1 million home in Miami, ran businesses in Florida for years, is a registered Republican, and voted for Donald Trump in 2024. He was openly endorsed by Trump, who celebrated his ‘BIG’ victory on Truth Social.

He has pledged to ‘disembowel the left,’ move Colombia’s embassy to Jerusalem, and restore full diplomatic and military ties with Israel. And after declaring victory, his first instinct was to drive around Bogotá in a bulletproof box...

...Then, in one of his victory speeches, he shouted: ‘Long live the people of Israel.’

Not ‘long live Colombia.’ Not ‘long live the Colombian people,’ the ones who had, allegedly, just elected him...

I wanted to quote salient pieces, but the whole article is salient. Anything less than reading it in toto is a serious disservice to self and more importantly, democracy.

Larry Sanger, one of Wikipedia’s cofounders, was banned from editing the site indefinitely after other editors determined he was canvassing, or in other words, calling on his followers off platform in order to influence Wikipedia’s content.

Sanger has spent more than a decade criticizing Wikipedia for what he claims is an ideological, left-wing bias on a variety of topics, and on X has framed this recent ban as further proof of everything that’s wrong with Wikipedia. The New York Post took that bait and last night published an article with the headline “Left-leaning Wikipedia blocked founder from editing site—after he campaigned to make it more balanced.”

Wikipedia editors obviously reject that framing and say that Sanger was banned for wielding his followers to sway discussion and decision making on Wikipedia. The discussion that led to the decision to ban Sanger concluded with what an editor called a “clear consensus” to ban Sanger.

Following Iran’s announcement that it was closing the Strait of Hormuz again after Israel intensified its assault on Lebanon, Trump went on a tirade Sunday in which he threatened to assassinate negotiators and said Iran “won’t have a country” if access to the critical waterway was shut off, while also threatening to “take over” Iran with a full US invasion.

But after Trump’s threats—which
broke the first clause of the memorandum of understanding—Iran’s negotiators filed a complaint with the Pakistani and Qatari mediators and stormed out of the mountain resort where talks were being held, according to several outlets.

While Trump clearly sought to project strength, Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf,
said his team “do not take American threats seriously.”
