Mini Tachikoma paint job

I wasn’t the most happy with my Jigabachi paint job. I airbrushed but kept getting a rough texture. I was using 15-18psi with pre thinned lacquer paints but especially on larger pieces something wasn’t working right. Took a break then figured that the mini tachikoma that came with that same model would be perfect for some trial and error.

This time I used a can of primer instead of the Mr surfacer bottle. I used all the same paints but decided to build up the color more gradually. This is where I had the problem I think. I read that with gloss and metallics you want to put on a nice wet coat but I know that orange peel/ rough texture can come from putting the paint on too thick/fast.

I started with a super fine misting of the color before setting it down and getting to other pieces. Once done, say 5-10mins I’d go back to the first piece with about the same type of coating. 5 or 6 passes latter and the color was basically where I wanted. I then did a wetter coat, wet enough that I could see a glossy sheen, and that was my last coat for the paint. Let dry for 24hrs and hit it with a gloss, let dry another 24, then did the detail paints by hand. Red enamel for the lights, black for the “eyes” and other dark marks, and silver for the bare metal.

I’m super happy with the result. I think I found my airbrush problem and I did decently well with the hand painting. I have two more of these mini Tachikoma so I think I’ll try to get the colors for the others from the episode where the three Tachikoma break out to save Batou. Yellow/black construction type and I think the other was like a rnd style grey. Or maybe a red one like the Arise model

Saved my parents 2015 MBA

My parents have this old 2015 MacBook Air that they wanted to use but couldn’t due to no security updates and slow running. I convinced them to let me load up fedora on it instead of junking it. They only really need it for some basic document writing, email, and web surfing so I figured this is perfect for them.

Made a bootable drive with Fedora 43 work station on it, figured gnome would be the most Apple like spin. Everything went super smooth until I realized that the WiFi drivers weren’t installed lol. I also didn’t have a Ethernet adapter for usb-a so I had to overnight it to me while my parents swore I bricked their Mac all night. Got the adapter this AM, hooked it up, installed the drivers and other necessary tweaks, and viola! This Mac has new life.

So far my parents are liking it and understanding it (even though my mom seems more excited about the snoopy wallpaper and Firefox theme, lol). Getting their emails on thunderbird was driving me crazy. Nothing to do with thunderbird, they just didn’t know their passwords smh. All in all not bad. To new Linux converts

My old 86 Bandai juggernaut build

So I built this a while ago but never posted it. I really only weathered this using the tamiya weathering powders and a mat top coat. Still one of my favorites on the shelf though.

I REALLY like the 86’s mech designs. Quad and hexapedal robots always make more sense than bipedal imo, especially when they’re not 20m tall

MG MSZ-006A1 Zeta Plus done!

So I just finished this kit up. Love the zeta, it’s top 5 MS easily and I’m a sucker for anything in actual military/grunt colors. This kit wasn’t anything too bad but it 100% is showing its age.

I ignored the stickers(as is tradition) and used some enamel paint for the eyes and cameras. Deepened the panel lines cause some were mere hints of panels. Lined him and called it a day. Like the finished look but dang the kits got a few hangups.

Arms are definitely meh, and it possesses one of my biggest pet peeves of not being able to hold the guns well. The arms also needs to be positioned right to just hold the gun AND its bicep connection is super tight. Add in the flimsy feeling shoulder and I’m being super careful about how I move/twist the bicep/forearm.

Posing in general is rough. The hip gun things need to be lifted up to allow any posing due to them hitting the back skirt and popping it off and I think the actual hips/leg connection is loose. Thing loses its stance from light pressure. Legs aren’t too bad on their own but those dang fabric tube sleeve things suck. To get them in place was a struggle and by the time I was done the ends were frayed.

Chest went together well but some of the snap connections were super stiff. With the chest being mostly hollow I really felt like I was going to break something. Luckily no issues there.

Overall I’d give it a 6/10. It is dated and takes some mindfulness but I’d build it again. On a related note anyone know of the best MG Zeta to get? After this I want one to actually pose nice and feel more solid. I don’t want one of my fav Gundams to live exclusively in this state. I hear the ver.ka is preem

Trojan Proxy Server vs VPN

Good afternoon all my fellow netizens. I have a question for y’all.

To preface this, I’m not the most tech savvy. I know a little about tech and I know the recommended “sailing techniques” but for more in-depth stuff I rely on those smarter than I.

So, for piracy how does a Trojan Proxy Server(like the ones anonymous-proxies offer) compare to a traditional VPN?

From my reading I know that the Trojan Proxy Server is harder to detect, and is able to be used in nations who actively target VPNs, like China. And it apparently hides behind the https so your data looks like normal web traffic (please correct me if I’m wrong or mistaken). So if correctly bound to a torrent client it should offer even greater protection and anonymity than a vpn.

Just curious for some input from tech people before I make mistakes. Especially if the US continues to go down this authoritarian road I’d like a back up in case they target vpns

Accessing Jellyfin Help

Good morning all,

I'm having an issue with my Jellyfin server and hoping that you lovely wizards can help me...again.

So I initially tried and failed to set up Jellyfin on elementaryOS(skill issue), I wasn't really invested in the OS so I just switched to Ubuntu. Things have been much easier for the get go. I now have set up Jellyfin on my ubuntu 24.04.2 and uploaded my library from my external hdd. Now I cant figure out how to connect other devices so I can watch my media on my macbook. I currently also use a PIA vpn with port forwarding on due to my qbit seeding. I feel like that is important info. I've looked up how to connect while one the same network but since I need my vpn to stay on I'm feeling a little outside my depth again. Ultimate goal is to be able to access my library on other devices mainly, mainly my macbook, while also being able to seed from Qbit safely.

I appreciate any assistance you all can offer!

Jellyfin assistance

Hello, I yet again come, hat in hand, for assistance from those wiser in the ways of the Linux. I’m having a bit of an issue downloading Jellyfin on my ElementaryOS laptop. I’ve tried all the guide on the first few pages of ddg only to receive errors after entering the comman “ sudo apt-get update “. I get ERR:3 https//repo.jellyfin.org/debian circle Release 404 Not found.

If someone can point me the way I’d be most appreciative

Hg GXuuuuuuX

I just finished this last night. Overall the build was super nice 9/10. My only complaint is that it has a decent amount of stickers. The foils were pretty okay, any sticker fit into a recess so no struggling there, but the red decal stickers and yellow marking stickers sucked. Over curbs, wrapping around, in weird spots. They were a 100% no go for me. Luckily I have testors enamel. First time free handing but I felt like it went ight. Some of my lines definitely need work though lol. Overall I used 3 stickers in total. The cheek pieces and lower stomach one. I did those before remembering how much I hate stickers lol.

As a warning I will say this kit had some REALLY tiny pieces, the head especially. Kinda felt more like building a RG Eva than a Hg Gundam. On the good side it’s articulation is nice, it’s possible and stable, and all the molds are super detailed. It even gives you parts for a whole second head so you can have the deployed or retracted look that’s easily swappable. I’d 100% build this again

Migrating qbit data from Mac to Linux

Hello all,

I'm having some issues that probably stem from lack of education on computers, so if some kind soles out there can give me some assistance I'd very much appreciate it.

My immediate goal is to take all my torrent data from my MacBook qbittorrent (latest version) to my old laptop that I just loaded ElementaryOS on. This way I can have my files seeding at all times instead of when I have my mac up and running. I have all the actual media on a external SSD so I don't have to or want to redownload all the torrents on the Elementary pc.

I've done some basic reading but all the articles and youtube vids I see are just migrating from one windows to another windows machine. Duplicating the data in the app data and drag and dropping it. I've even seen the recommendation to have the same version of qbittorrent to make the swap easy. Now my under educated mind is confused on going from Mac to Linux since its a completely different OS and therefore a different "version" of qbit. I imagine its possible but I'm feeling out of my depth.

I'd really love if someone can point me in the right direction if they can.

Ghost in the Shell chopper

So I finished this model a few weeks ago. Struggled with the airbrushing and wasn’t fond of the result. After a while I came around on it. Still idk why my black gloss coat got so bumpy but meh, gotta go practice some more on spoons.

Recently I posted this on r/Gunpla over on reddit only for the post to get removed by the mods. They always let mech plamo in before. I asked for clarification and the mod swears the this isn’t a mech. Anyone have any thoughts on that. I’m pretty sure it meets the def of mech. Noun; Large piloted combat robot.

Guts berserker armor

This might be a little out of place but i don’t think Lemmy has any other plamo communities. Either way, here is my guts berserker armor. This is a fantastic kit. Simple and extremely easy assembly. Flexibility is a solid 9/10(I would’ve like a little wider if a stance tbh) but the ab-crunch, leg, and arms are fantastic. I highly recommend this kit, even if you’re not a berserk fan

My very first custom

This was done a while back, maybe a year or so. It was my first full paint job. Used Mr. Color rattle cans and went for a more military color scheme. I didn’t order enough paint so while waiting for deliveries I kinda kit bashed the OG Astaroth and the rinascimento. Made a few mistakes but learned from it.

My fist fully airbrushed kit

This was back last year. I took a EG RX-78-2 and used hobby mio lacquer paints through my new iwata airbrush. Overall pretty happy. Used knight gold and mecha “black” plus red on the eyes. Only complaint was the black was purple. Idk who at hobby mio decided THIS was “mecha black”
