Kanata Theatre's 10-Minute Play Festival nurtures emerging artists - Stittsville Central - Local Stories, Events and Business

Once again, the Kanata Theatre opens its doors to new voices in the local arts community with its 6th Annual 10-Minute Play Festival taking place from July 23 to 26, 2026 at the Ron Maislin Theatre.

At its heart, the 10-Minute Play Festival remains true to its original 2021 purpose: to provide a supportive, hands-on learning experience for those new to theatre-making. First-time playwrights are invited to submit original short scripts, while novice directors are given the chance to bring those scripts to life. Each play runs just 10 minutes, making the format perfect for experimentation, collaboration, and creative risk-taking

Community groups propose City of Ottawa explore acquiring Kanata golf course for urban park

Three community groups are calling on the City of Ottawa to explore acquiring the Kanata Golf and Country Club and turn it into an urban park to prevent the development of 1,500 new homes on the land.

ClubLink, the owner of the Kanata Lakes golf course, and developers Minto Group and Richcraft Homes plan to build approximately 1,500 homes on the course.

The Supreme Court of Canada cleared the path for development after dismissing the City of Ottawa’s appeal of an Ontario Court of Appeal ruling that called the 1981 agreement to keep 40 per cent of the property as greenspace “inoperative.” The Ontario Land Tribunal has approved the development, which is subject to 192 conditions from the city.
