intro from a reddit migrant

Glad to see a fellow Reddugee! I'm also in to a lot of non-dnd games (to the dismay of the RPG community in my local area) Pathfinder is my favorite dnd-like game. My favorite rpgs however are Fatecore, Forged in the Dark, Genesys, Cypher System, Deadlands, and FFG Starwars (but I also played the D20 version and had a blast with my friends). I really hope to see you around here, this is a pretty cool group!

Welcome to lemm.ee!

On behalf of all the refugees out there I can't thank you enough for creating this instance. I was shocked that subreddits with millions of followers, were willing to shoot themselves in the foot and jeopardize their userbase and the years information they contained just to play slackivist. It got to the point that I couldn't use reddit because of my subs were privated. If people really want to stick it to the man at RedditHQ, leave. Reddit was supposed to be about the people and the community. I guess we forgot about...

Enough about that, thank for making a place for us Reddit expatriates and refugees.

Reddit is doing the Fediverse a huge favor

Wow, reading all of these comments gives me hope for social media in the future. I'll be honest, I'm a reddit refugee I just migrated a few days ago.

And I'll tell you guys this place is amazing compared to Reddit. I never realized how much of a cesspool the site was until moving and seeing people actually talk to each other, have conversations.

I had given up on social media because it got to the point that every post I made was downvoted into oblivion and if they weren't harrasing me, they were fighting one another. It was such a toxic site full of cruel, caustic, spiteful, hateful people and I'm sure I'll see the cracks in Lemmy once the honeymoon period ends but right now I'm really liking social media for first in well, ever.

Tl;Dr you guys have a nice place and I'm glad to be here.

Staked deposit to ensure good behaviour

10$ is what my mom spends on food for my family right now doing surveys on QMee until my dad is finally able to get a job. I know I'm a rare breed in this respect. But if joining an instance cost money or crypto or whatever, that would be a HUGE barrier for entry for me right now because we'd have to decide between eating tonight or going on social media (I think you which choice I'd make.) I'd rather just wait to be vetted by a mod. I just did that, waited a few hours and joined Fostodon no problem.

I know 10 dollars doesn't seem like a lot, and I have no intention to go all woe is me. But if Lemmy cost money, I'd just tough it out on Reddit or any number of centralized social media sites where at least it's free.

I think it has merit but unfortunately I would NEVER want to be a part of that just because how tight things are right now.

And to put my money which I desperately need for other things just to have it stolen by a powermod because they're looking for some extra cash would be demoralizing.
