Premier League 23/24 Team of the Week 2

Did you see this: https://archive.is/20230822073232/https://theathletic.com/4793374/2023/08/22/spurs-manchester-united-rewatch-pedro-porro/

There are some observations about Son there too. A characteristic of Angeball seems to be team effort, disrupting expectations and observation of the details. E.g. as important as scoring goals, a role of contemporary 9s seems to be movement that pulls defences about to make space. I've noticed this with other teams too (see Brighton for example).

This good too: https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/news/son-heung-min-tottenham-postecoglou-27569290

Vicario vs Raya.

All fair, and Ange doesn't need a long ball keeper this season. Maybe he'll be of a different mind when he sees what City, Arsenal etc do this term? I do hope Vic does well.

The anxiety stems from the fact that a lot of players Levy gets in have a hard dependency on them being able to improve their game and TOO OFTEN that hope is in vain. The ongoing narrative at Spurs is shambolic recruitment. But that's perhaps as much to do with shambolic recruitment of managers...

Official behind the scenes footage of Son being named captain

@coys @spurs

This is a fascinating video. All of us who has ever worked on a team, in an office, or wherever, can relate to this. It all seemed a touch awks, even. Brings home the fact that despite the extraordinary money and fame, these are still just people.

Interesting approach to the dressing room from Ange there too. It's the players' domain. A place for them to develop their own responsibilities, autonomy, and culture. Super interesting leadership tactic. 🧠

[WhoScored] Who is Alejo Veliz? The teenage hitman Tottenham want to replace Kane

Reply in thread

@coys

"Veliz doesn't contribute much off the ball, noted in that he averaged just 15.6 passes and 0.6 key passes per 90 this campaign, yet when presented with the chances to hit the back of the net, the Argentine is lethal. "

Given the amount of chances we've generated in the pre-season games (I know, I know, it's only pre-season), his "lethal" finishing could be just what the doctor ordered. 😋

This is what I guessed was on the cards with the Bayern noise and the Mbappe sale.

@coys

So it kind of doesn't matter what Bayern bid, PSG will outbid them.

Given that Kane doesn't want to go to PSG, will Levy grant Harry his wish?

Levy has about as much human warmth about him as an Antarctic snake, and given he seems perfectly fine contemplating the sale of Sanchez to fucking Moscow, I can see Kane ending up in Paris. But if Kane refuses to go to PSG, what then? Maybe he has enough sway over Levy to force move to Bayern?

Either way, hurry up – we want CBs!

[The Athletic] Alejo Veliz: Tottenham’s new striker has dancing feet but is ‘fearsome’ in the air

@coys @spurs

“I remember one game, a very tricky away match against Lanus, the year when we finished third in the league. We were winning 2-1 when one of their strikers broke through alone. He ran from halfway, leaving our defenders behind, and looked certain to score. But then Alejo whistled, pretending it was the referee stopping the game. The striker stopped and one of our centre-backs stole the ball."
