A Few Thoughts and Observations about the Recent Huge Computer Parts Price Increases
Yeah, no, I'm not going through two different 'prove you're not a robot' screens for one article about RAM chips, thanks.

'A total failure' — Hungarian opposition leader says Ukraine EU accession national poll had lowest ever turnout

It probably also has to do with the fact that Hungary is entirely in the russian pocket, just saying.

Want to plant trees to offset fossil fuels? You’d need all of North and Central America, study finds
No, I want to plant trees because it helps to have a resilient ecosystem that's more safe in case of a cascade collapse. I want to plant trees because they provide shade in the summer. Because they improve the soil. Because they help prevent floods. Because they give birds food and shelter. Because they are fucking PRETTY.
Can we start thinking about the whole thing instead of acting as if i single problems that are not interconnected?
Plant some fucking trees, even if they are not just carbon sequestration batteries.

California zeroes out funding for world’s ‘largest virtual power plant’
Dive Brief:
- California lawmakers approved a sweeping energy package at the end of the legislative session that does not include funding to continue two grid reliability programs, including a virtual power plant advocates believe is the largest in the world.
- Earlier this year, the state faced a $12 billion budget shortfall, and the two programs were in limbo for months as legislators negotiated down to the wire. The bills awaiting Gov. Gavin Newsom’s signature after the session closed Saturday include proposals aimed at bringing down energy costs, expanding the Western grid and codifying virtual power plants in longterm planning.
- Advocates say gutting the Demand Side Grid Support and Distributed Electricity Backup Assets programs threatens to undermine the state’s progress toward a more resilient grid that can respond to system stress by calling on batteries, electric vehicles, rooftop solar panels, smart thermostats and other energy resources that are increasingly common in homes, businesses and institutions.

Smol fedi - how I think fediverse should work

That is absolutely amazing, and a step in good direction, I hope it gets wider adoption and that the PieFed creator's pillow is always cool, and that he finds an unexpected fiver in his pocket every week for the rest of his life 🙏

See, that's the beauty - you can tell them 'you can join one that's owned by your community instead, an still be able to follow anyone on there! This way you will support your own people and also will have a say in how it is ran' ;)

Giving your house plants genetically enhanced super powers
Reply in thread
That's because this video is an undisclosed ad probably. Also, sorry, I'm not really willing to take advice from someone who lives in Northern America with it's completely fucked ecosystem, says to be 'a researcher' and still makes dumb quips about how the genetic research restrictions in Europe are 'silly' and 'too much'

What to do with a hotwired fridge (no thermostat) -- make it a wine cooler, beer fridge, or what?
You could even use the 'smart' temp sensor and plug to power it on when the temp rises above the desired value, but probably won't be buyable in your local hardware store... Also, R-134a and other refridgerants are vety potent greenhuse gases, so maybe don't release that...

Writing Club - November 2025
Hi! Really glad I found this community :) I've decided to start writing, and because of my ADHD I needed to impose myself a deadline, or I'll never get anything done, so I've decided that I'm going to write a little TTRPG game, and debut a playable preview of it on a local gaming convention at the end of March. In solarpunk-related stuff, I have an idea for two solarpunk short stories, so I hope to have a draft of at least one of them this year, will be very interested in getting proofreaders ;) Hi again, good to be here!

Smol fedi - how I think fediverse should work
Reply in thread
Hi! Of course I did, I think it is awesome, and that Elena should get a Fediverse Nobel Prize! Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we should abandon mentioning federation completely, quite the opposite, the Don't Tell People About Fediverse was more of a provocation ;) I think that having our communities federate is a huge strength we have, and I think that vid is a perfect explainer of 'what actually is federation, and I believe we direly needed that kind of friendly, helpful and premade response, I absolutely plan to use it on my instances to introduce people to the concept and explain it :) I'm just saying, that in day-to-day human interactions, I think we should start with 'There is this awesome community I'm in!' and then later go to 'AND you can follow other communities from within it, no need to make an extra account!' - as I did in my text BTW. We absolutely should do both, but I have noticed people focusing on geeking out on the awesomeness of The Fediverse - and understandably, it is awesome - but failing to mention what actually we do have here, if that makes sense to you?
Also, thank you for taking time to read and comment on this, live long and prosper 🖖

Yeah, there were a couple of 'basically standarised' formats, you'd put them in your signature to show people cool stuff that you care about.

How to handle running Blades in setting with different species/ancestries/races
Soooooo, hopefully it is still relevant to anyone, since I just found this post and actually have something :D
What I would do (and probably will in the future, since I have a setting idea that would involve this), is to take a look at the special rules that exist right now for not-exactly-human player entities: ghosts, hulls and vampires.
I am personally looking at hulls, and how having a different hull size changes starting features, but also the way vampire feeding works...
Hope this helps and can't wait to hear about what you came up with, since the post is two years old hahaha 😅
