Grab carian retaliation, throw it on a medium shield, and parry the crap out of the boss. You can also use a buckler if you don't want to put time into getting the ash of war.

His attacks are incredibly forgiving and you'll feel like a parry god.

Give it a couple shots to get the feel of it. I recommend doing this solo, another player or spirit ash can mess up the aggro (and get grabbed healing him more).

Probably worth noting that is pretty hard to find new 2.5" drives with reasonable TBW and prices nowadays.
