I have solved that by giving the distant machine the credentials to connect to the local machine. And the distant machine can't be accessed from the outside.

Many devs of FOSS Android apps won't be willing to disclose their identity, and there will be no market left for them. Which means abandoning the maintenance of their apps.

You won't find apps that provide the same service as permitted by the entire Google ecosystem. That would mean that they are as intrusive as Google and you wouldn't be willing to use them. You either choose convenience and you can keep Google or renounce it a bit and use one app per function.

There's no such thing as total privacy. When you walk in the streets, people can see you and that is no problem. Same goes online. You have to reach YOUR balance between privacy and convenience. I have reached mine with two excellent tools that are GrapheneOS and AdGuardHome. Of course I have also excluded privacy-invading apps such as WhatsApp or Google search. I suppose I evade 80% Big Tech usual tracking and I'm happy that way.

I wouldn't recommend network apps to a complete beginner. They might loose their network for a while and get afraid of tinkering. My 2p

Install it. You'll lose support in either way.

Reinstalling stock Android is just as simple as installing GrapheneOS. But you won't be willing to revert if you don't try and go too far into protecting your privacy. Go step by step and it will really make you happy!

I use Radicale as a Docker container and it runs fine, with no maintenance apart from upgrading the image once in a while.

If you're privacy conscious, then UnifiedPush is a good alternative to Google's solution for push notifications.

According to the EU Digital markets act, the gatekeepers (major networks) must propose means to interoperate with the smaller networks.

I have been self-hosting my mail server for the past 5 or 6 years with success. Recently my ISP decided to close port 25 so I have to use a third party to deliver my outgoing mail.

Self-hosting for a bit less than 10 years. My main pain is that my setup is now stable and I have nothing left to tinker with.

There are many solutions. I have chosen xmpp/ejabberd/conversations/monal.

It is out of the question!
