So how long until the Fediverse is monetized?
Reply in thread
Exactly right. I never had a problem with Reddit wanting to make money for their services. If you give me exactly what I want, I will pay.

I think its because Zuck created FB and while we dont doubt he is evil, he is evil in his lane. Privacy invading social cancer has always been his product, Meta is the 2000s version of "big tobacco"
The "meme" of Zuck is a socially awkward robot, the meme of Elon is an attention starved diva who will do anything to try and stay relevant.
Some people dislike Zuck, some people FUCKING HATE Elon.

Looking for a new GPU for 1080p gaming in high quality. Is the RX6700XT a good choice?
Got my 6700xt before it was cool and at 1080p it crushes Cyberpunk and Diablo 4.
It didnt review terribly well at the time but both Jay and Linus have recently touted it as the best value going at the moment.

The problem with racist humor is that theres a limited number of premises. How many ways can you make a slavery or no father joke about black people? How many math jokes can you make about asians? Muslim terrorists? You get the idea.
I dont want the same lazy bullshit over and over. I want my dark humor to be fresh! I want my Titan submarine jokes before the bubbles reach the surface.
Racist humor isnt "dark" humor, its lazy tired rehashed crap. Real dark humor is like kids with leukaemia, it never seems to get old.

Oh then thats absolutely where I see Lemmy going if its a success. Give it 10 years and people will know their app or their managed instance and have no clue what Lemmy is.

Farmer ordered to pay after judge says thumbs-up emoji amounts to contract acceptance
Reply in thread
They had previously conducted business via text message, the business deal had been discussed previously and when asked for confirmation that the deal was good via a picture of the actual contract the farmer responded with a thumbs up. The buyer then had to purchase the goods at the current market rate that was significantly higher which put him out of pocket.
So the guy suing the farmer could show that not only was this a normal way of them doing business, but he had effectively written acceptance of the deal (the emoji) and incurred a substantial monetary loss as a result of the agreement not being honored.

Im still wrapping my head around the concept but FOR EXAMPLE could someone create an instance that requires a subscription fee, link it to their own app (like a retooled RIF) and offer a curated and managed experience?
Vs
Join a free instance, use what free software you want and have to figure out the nuts and bolts yourself?
