"Classic rock" isn't timeless. Most of it is dated, cheesy, lame, unintelligent, and don't forget sexist. Also, it used to be the 60s. Now it's the 80s. Because it's all about old people nostalgia.
I agree, the genre is slowly shifting to late 80s early 90s too with deftones and slipknot being considered "dad rock" by a lot of people.
