Great read, warnings like this should be added to the conversation as long as federation with Meta is brought up. Especially for non-technical users or new users who haven't seen embrace, extend, extinguish before we will need some way to let them know what is on the other end of federating with large companies.

Sadly that's exactly who Meta wants, is people who don't care about the underlying system and they I'm sure will spend much more convincing those users that federation with Meta is a good thing.

Surely if we allow them to privatize parts that should fix the funding issue, hopefully people only need healthcare they can afford!

Is there any mental health treatment effective enough to remedy seeing this stuff for 8 hours a day? I can't see a scenario where you can walk out of that job unscathed unless you're a psychopath.

Are there any trackers on what they or the CRTC have done? It'd be nice to hold them accountable for not just saying things but actually doing things.

Definitely feels like a downturn but I can't help but wonder why they point to office space as such a large concern. Unless there was major offshoring going on however that was left out of the article it seems.

After ArriveCan it's no surprise that something like this would come out calling for them to look at costs on these contracts.

Although with the amount of tech debt in the government any IT work will be an uphill battle and no politician wants to pay to cut down tech debt. So I don't see a way out for them at the moment.

I mean they do have SAT's in the states which still matters quite a bit for acceptance. That seems like a solve for a grade inflation scenario like we're seeing although it's not without it's caveats.

I recently came out of a pre-PiP. It took some work but most of the heavy lifting was just listening to and actioning on advice. It was also a culture that used this quite frequently for course correction and usually tries to avoid PIP'ing when possible.

That said once on a PIP the advice even at that company was to look elsewhere generally. I currently have 3 YOE if that helps, and the pre-PIP was fairly early in my on-boarding.

I think r/privacyguides handled this well by starting their own instance. The idea of sitting on a magazine/community name doesn't make much sense when you can simply roll your own instance.

I for one don't mind a change in management as I go between different instances anyhow. It's not like Reddit was known for having the best mods in every sub.
