I was seeing articles on p.d about a month ago saying so. I'm having trouble finding them now. Maybe I misremembered but I'm like 90% certain they did.

Made by. They link futo.org as their 'company' on the immich website. It's open source so if you really want to use it there's nothing wrong with forking it.

Never seen that list, but that's a good resource for keeping track of these orgs.

Nextcloud certainly can be a cumbersome beast. I'm glad it's the second thing I chose to selfhost instead of something much later on. Gave me a chance to get my feet wet with it. I'm a big fan, but I think if I'd started with smaller services I'd be upset about the breadth of the project. It is absolutely trying to do everything it can, which can be good or bad depending on your use case.

Immich is made by futo, an org who just donated a couple mil to a fash dev to maintain some vibecoded post install scripts. Nextcloud does everything Immich does through some extensions available in their marketplace. Don't support fash soft. Use eurojank instead! <\political>

Didn't even think of Bill Gates since he stepped down from his leadership position in 2008. I didn't realize he was still a board member til 2020 (just looked that up) so I guess yeah, it's got a pedo associated.
That makes me sad.
And yes, I have been living in a hole. For my own mental health I don't look at news beyond my state's borders because I'm highly reactive and get in fights in the comment sections.

I was very confused to see cinny on this list, but it wasn't, it was a defunct browser:)

Anon time travels
4GB is fine on a proper operating system. I'd still be using my 2011 mba with debian if it wasn't for the fan noise.
If you genuinely need more, good for you buy something more powerful. Most folks just use web browsers, and if you stay out of the chromium ecosystem those tend to be relatively lightweight in my experience.
I'm also of the opinion we should abandon the modern web and shift back to gopher but that's just like, my opinion, man

My great grandmother had an arc shaped burn mark on her windowsill. I asked her where it was from.
Turns out the crystal ball on the piano wasn't always on the piano.

Bit-for-Bit DVD/Blu-Ray Backup
I'd recommend ddrescue over dd for optical media backups only because if you've got bad blocks it will try them again at a different speed/angle

how is fediverse protected from ai agents?
It isn't, like even a little.
I've got a wordpress instance that I've federated into the fediverse and as soon as I did I went from 2-3 spam comments a week to over 50 a week. I've since set up a honeypot and that has dropped to zero. These probably aren't AI agents but they're certainly bots (humans can't see my honeypot unless they're browsing the raw HTML and afict my audience wouldn't do that)
There is absolutely nothing stopping your from spinning up a Masotodon, Lemmy, or any other AP federated platform and unleashing AI agents all across it other than your own conscience.

Makes me think of how I recently read Ishmael and it literally changed my life. I understand now. I am ape. Do as ape do.
There's like, a lot more than that, but that was my biggest takeaway (which would probably make the author very sad given what the book was actually about)

Vibe coders don't know shit!
I used to write a ton of code while caffeinated.
Now I write less, better code since quitting caffeine.
There was a brief period where I was incapable of doing anything at all between the state of high caffeination and no caffeination.

Arch Linux AUR Under Another Wave Of Malicious Packages - Package Adoptions Halted
This is getting really old. Can these dorks please do something valuable with their time? Maybe contribute (positively) to society a little?
(and no I don't consider teaching arch users to be more responsible with their package management a positive contribution to society)

Somehow, somewhere, I've done something terribly wrong.
I know this is technically off topic because it's windows, but like, it was done in the spirit of unixporn.
Hope my shitpost is ok, love y'all.

US military disables ad trackers on troops’ phones amid security fears
Oh I see, the military is allowed to have ad-tracking disabled but when I have an adversarial noise generator running to produce alternative ad profiles and obfuscate my person from my device I'm a "terrorist" and "won't be allowed back in the country if I leave"

(solved) Textures do not load when running Spider-Man 2 with Proton
You ain't got no VRAM, lieutenant Dan.
Where are you planning to put those textures you're loading.
I know the performance should be sufficient to game with, but Idk about that one.
