Even Stricter Laws - Why is Russia doing this to LGBT?
The Russian Federation isn't the USSR. The Federation is a pretty conservative reactionary force that is in no way socialist, as much as the west likes to paint them as such. The CPC is, and while they may be overarching allies on many issues it doesn't mean they are going to see eye-to-eye on everything, especially social issues. It's not surprising that they are very regressive on many social policies. This isn't unique to Russia though, it does seem strange to single them out on it.
I have seen some folks make the mistake of assuming that since we generally don't support the Ukranian side of the ongoing conflict that we must inherently support Russia in all things. That is not the case, and that kind of binary thinking is an artifact of western indoctrination. Understanding that Russia has reasons for the invasion (they do) and that all Russian people are not inhuman monsters (they aren't) isn't the same as uncritical support for them in all things.
Communists should not uncritically support Russia out of some misguided nostalgia for the Soviet Union, nor simply as a contrarian stance.

If you have no idea who somebody really is, why would you want to take a photo with them? I suppose asking one staffer to maybe vet them before they are commemorated is asking too much?
The proper response is outrage that a nazi was invited to be honoured. Especially as a descendent of Holocaust survivors, the correct reaction is to be livid. Not upset that people are "politicizing an issue".

Lemmy is just a nazi den now.
I feel like the vast majority of lemmy.world World News users are direct migrants from /r/worldnews. They exude the exact same attitude.

After the zoo that famously starved one of the Panda on loan from China, that makes sense. I still think it was intentional to take out their sinophobia on panda.

"Research" by US university says lemmygrad is the 4th most popular "tankie" website

I almost appreciate the CCP/CPC thing, because it gives me a shorthand as to know whether the upcoming argument will have any merit or just be bullshit.
I still look at their actual argument on their merits, but 95% of the time it has gone exactly the way I expected.

Next war is on China
Swaying them to vote...for who? Remind me which US political party would align with Chinese interests. Are they staging a massive coup for the CPUSA?

Fucking lemmy libs
Every day, the bigger news communities mirror /r/worldnews more and more. I am already starting to see all the same talking points, the same complaining about tankies, and the same three jokes about China that they already have.

Reddit users having a meltdown over discovering the creators of lemmy.ml are comrades
It's a pretty liberal space, there are some extremely liberal communities/users around. I would honestly almost understand the arguments if people were advocating they come to lemmygrad or something.
Maybe (let's be honest, definitely) they are just upset they can't be overtly racist towards Chinese people and get celebrated for it.

When "Russinan disinformation" is just "information".

US-China tensions: Biden calls Xi a dictator day after Beijing talks
Are box cars an official term of measurement in the states now? Man, the imperial measurement systems are weird.
“That’s a great embarrassment for dictators. When they didn’t know what happened.”
Unlike Biden, President Xi is pretty aware of what is happening in and around his country. I have little doubt he knew what happened to the balloon, but I also can't imagine he was particularly embarrassed about it. He wasn't the one who missed shooting at a freaking balloon.

US arrests Navy soldiers, accusing them of spying for China
Just a reminder that no matter how much you sell yourself out to try to fit in, if you are ethnically Chinese (or Russian, or whichever ethnic group the US currently is scapegoating) you will always be the Other and the first to be targeted. Doesn't matter if you get the passport, become a soldier or a cop, you will never be one of them.
Since they are going to get blamed for it and railroaded whether they did it or not, I hope they at least actually did get some information to China. I can't imagine they had all that much China didn't already know about though.

Let's see if we can find a pattern in this picture
"Numbers that high are impossible, the country is lying".
Obviously the natural order of things is to have homeless on every street corner, it is impossible to exist otherwise!

We should try to be less hostile to people from other instances
I always try to engage with people fairly, but at the same time you can usually tell very quickly when people are honestly just misinformed and when they are actively hostile/trolling. I often see people actually give long and detailed answers to folks who ask legitimate questions, even if it may seem readily apparent to us.

Lib infestation on Lemmy
I prefer the comments to the phantom downvoters. You can get some good dunks in on the former and there's the chance someone stumbles across it and actually thinks for a few seconds. As far as how to respond to them, I don't really want to dictate that. I think there is a place for a reasonable and rational response, a plus for dunks, and a place for pig memes.
I usually migrate from one to the next; I will engage in good faith at least to begin with. Doesn't mean I think everyone should do the same if they don't want to.

That seems to be an ongoing trend. The issue for them isn't that these folks are nazis, but that they are too visibly a nazi. Kind of like the soldiers with nazi patches making it awkward for the poor New York Times.
Western media needs at least a couple more years to condition people first before they can be quite so public about it.
