Been using Gunlance since MHFU. I remember my reason for using being that it is both a melee and a range weapon. I tried sniping a Velociprey back then, wondered why it didn't hit, realized it was more of a shotgun weapon. Literally picked it up because I thought GL was cool looking. Basically it is my main though I have been broadening my portfolio. In MHW, Charge Blade was an easy switch since GL and CB share some similar skills (Guard and Artillery). I also got into SnS for its perfect rush. In Rise, Greatsword got its fair share of use, is probably my second main under GL.

You rarely have to deal with swarms with bots anyway. This is why the low volume of fire weapons like the snipers and the dominator are really good to use in the bot front.

Edit: for context, I typically run AC, Dominator, Redeemer, Stun Grenades on Level 7 Difficulty.
