Announcing our NOVEMBER 2023 Criterion Collection titles!

Weird list of his movies. It would be better as an eclipse set, but they discontinued that line.

I'm glad you made this because I was thinking about making it myself. I wish I could get the mods from reddit to the other communities I've made.

My "Currently Reading" stack. What are you reading atm?
Fist of the Northstar only at the moment. Currently on Vol 6. The main arc is ending soon. It's my second time reading the series.
I forgot I'm reading Doraemon. I bought 10 volumes of bilingual manga and I'm slowly reading them through. It's not a manga written for binging through. They're all self-contained stories.

Criterion announces Janus Contemporaries with EO, No Bears, and The Innocent - Blu-ray and DVD editions of first-run films, fresh from theaters
I've never seen EO, but the comments I'm reading about it has peaked my interest.

What was the manga that got you into collecting?

It's action comedy manga about two girl bounty hunters who are obsessed with guns and cars set in Chicago. It's written by a gun and car otaku, and famed character designer, Kenichi Sonoda. So you get overly detailed explanations about certain weapons before the story kicks in with fun car chases and gunfights.

I didn't know they released Nightmare Alley. That pairs nicely with Freaks for a Carny double feature.

My simple Criterion shelf
That's an eclectic cut of Criterion movies. Very few of the core Janus titles. Nice.
Who's your favorite director? I want to say David Lynch based on the two movies of his you have and other titles you've bought.

Viz is reprinting the series for the first time. The main series ended a long time ago. To clarify the main arc for the reprint is ending soon. There is a prequel series Fist of the Blue Sky that went multiple volumes and various side stories. The series is still popular in Japan almost like Jojo.

Arrow announce their September 2023 releases
Blood and Black Lace in 4k is tempting with it's gorgeous colors, but I already have the Arrow bluray. I might end up picking it up during the year end sale. Same with Ringu and maybe Carlito's Way. I already have a dvd of Prodigal Son. If it was 4k, I would preorder it. I've only seen Psycho II so I can't justify a blind buy for the other sequels.

Mel Brooks' style of humor can definitely get corny sometimes. Spaceballs is better depending on how much of a Star Wars fan you are. I think Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles gets the humor mixture better.

Magic Crystal with Andy Lau and Cynthia Rothrock. 88Films release October 2023
I might have to get this to complete my Rothrock in HK collection. I've never seen it before so I'm not sure. Wong Jing movies are a crapshoot.

A Guide To Hong Kong Category III Shockers: Ghosts, Black Magic, And The Supernatural
I have Run and Kill on dvd. That's an intense movie and Simon Lam is fantastically crazy in it. There's a Batman Animated Series episode with the same concept. A regular guy having a run-in with the Joker.

I've been wanting to see this for years, but I never got around to it. One of the strange things about this movie is, if I remember right, Anthony Wong won a legit best actor award in Hong Kong.
I've only seen a few CatIII movies. I liked most of them from the sexy stuff to the hard edge horror.

It's not easy to import UK releases, but I'm grateful and buy as much as I can. Eureka and 88 Films have done an amazing job the past three years.

Skull Island is the best of the recent American kaiju or monster movies. When a director can sneak in a reference to Cannibal Holocaust in a mainstream movie that's a plus in my eyes.
