Suspect Registrations

PieFed 1.8.7

There have been a few registrations which appear related to each other. When I deny the registration, a new one is made fairly quickly.

I adapted by not responding to the registration with either Approve or Deny, which in turn stopped the cycle.

For registrations I imagine there's a feedback for when the denial is made. Can there be an option for Admin to select no feedback to resist automated bots filling out forms as soon as the denial is made?

Alternatively, can there also be an option to make no selection and to put the registration on some other no-action list to organize from the fresher and hopefully more legitimate registrations?

High CPU Usage on 1.7.8

OS: Debian VPS: 4 CPU, 8 GB RAM
PieFed v1.7.8

Observed higher than normal CPU usage, eventually rising to 100% and the site would no longer load for a number of hours. I panicked and tried rolling back changes to v1.7.7 but the high CPU load persisted. I gave up this AM and restored to v1.7.8.

So far CPU usage dropped to the point I could load up PieFed again to write this message. I'm hoping the load tapers off now and I'll just carry on like this.

PieFed v1.7 is released: Following People, Faster Browsing & Smarter Moderation

Kopitalk has updated to Piefed 1.7.0.

Congratulations to @[email protected] and all who contributed to this great milestone.

With this release, Piefed users can follow other threadiverse accounts, allowing these users' posts to appear on the timeline. Also, this follow feature brings Piefed users a deeper federation with "microblogging" platforms like Mastodon. Yes, you can now follow your favourite Mastodon accounts. As noted in the link, the integration will be smoothed out in the coming days and months. Go ahead and try following some accounts you're interested in.

While Mastodon accounts that you follow can be seen amongst your Subscribed timelines, there is also a way to filter down to just Microblogs at the following community:

https://kopitalk.net/c/microblogs

As this is a new feature, I believe the intent is to slowly roll this out to catch any issues. In that case, stay tuned for how to look up accounts the Instance has not seen coming soon!

When you're visiting the Microblogs community, feel free to hit the Star button to put it on your Communities List on your navigation bar for easier access.

RE: "Local Communities" and "All Communities" returns error

Piefed v1.6.17
Debian Linux 13 Trixie
Docker
kopitalk.net

Expectation: When I click the "Local Communities" or "All Communities", I should get a list of these communities.

Instead I got the following error for both:

An unexpected error has occurred

Sorry for the inconvenience! Please let us know about this, so we can repair it and make PieFed better for everyone.

RE: Kopitalk Piefed Website Inaccessible

Piefed v1.6.10
Debian Linux 13 Trixie
Docker
kopitalk.net

Expectation: Piefed to load normally on browser.

Observation: There's no pattern that I can make out, but since March 10, Piefed cannot be loaded on browser without warning. I checked the VPS and it functions as expected, I pulled the logs for "pyfedi-adminer-1", "pyfedi-db-1", and "pyfedi-redis-1", each seemed to indicate time stamps that suggested things were still working in the background.

Efforts: I'm not really familiar with troubleshooting so I pulled the old off and on dance move here and restarted the docker. For what it's worth the site loads normally at first, but quickly returns to being inaccessible. I ran a restore from backup 1 day back, and PieFed loaded normally without any issue.

Observation 2: Mar 11, I see the same issue happen overnight. Piefed is no longer accessible by browser. I repeated the check on the logs yesterday and it appears from timestamps that things are functioning in the background as expected.

Efforts: This time I decided to go further back, restoring from last week. I'm presently at Piefed v.1.6.8. I'm not sure if I should wait a bit and update to v.1.6.11.

Owner Of Adult Store Stunned After Pentagon Demands She Stop Shipping Butt Plugs To Soldiers In Middle East

Apparently the US Department of DefenseWar thinks that they can order non-US citizens not resident in the USA to cease and desist from mailing things.

Uh…

Hilarity of the items involved aside, the gall of the US military postal service to give orders to civilians not under their command and not even of their nation is shocking.

User Profiles Load Slowly For Admin

PieFed v1.4.4
Docker

Hi all! Happy New Year!

Issue: When I click on a profile, I expect it to load quickly. But, only as admin, I see that anyone's profile I click on loads fairly slowly.

Regular users apparently don't have the same issue.

Side Issue: Perhaps as a side issue, I discovered this load time problem when I get notifications saying that a user was reported. I'm not sure what the criteria are, but there's usually no note about why the user was reported. I click on the profile to try and figure out what the issue is, but I don't see anything too unusual to determine why the report was made in the first place.
