Guide to back up and restore chats locally/manually across Androids
There is no such guide on the ridiculously convoluted method as it actually is on Android (WhatsApp's official guide is terrible and doesn't work), so here is mine:
- Check if a chat backup happened in the last 24 hours; if not, have WhatsApp make a manual one
- Go to Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Databases
- Copy
msgstore.db.crypt14elsewhere
To restore:
- Install WhatsApp on the new phone
- Open the app, then back out of it immediately
- Move the aforementioned
msgstore.db.crypt14copy to the step-2 folder above - Proceed while giving WhatsApp access to all permissions, including contacts (then deny them later if you'd like)
WhatsApp is already killing a feature it only introduced a few years ago
WhatsApp introduced 3D avatars in late 2022. Now the company is removing the feature, possibly due to low user engagement.

So essentially Meta imagines a world, in which people don't even have to write their own messages to family and friends anymore?
Like we are not talking useless emails read by a bot here!
