My diy cnc plasma build

I had to shell out £££ recently for a bit of laser cutting and while it wasn't expensive it did give me the kick up the back side i needed to start putting a DIY cnc plasma table together . Closed loop steppers and drivers have already been shipped as well as 5-1 gearboxes for the motors otherwise i have everything, i just need to get some laser cutting done after i decide how i want the carriages but it should go together pretty. #diy #diycnc #cncplasma

DIY Welding table

I finally got this little welding table put together, It should be fine for the weekend stuff. There is a build video up with free cad files like the necessary dxf files for laser or plasma cutting, a step model and pdf. It was a fun build ,the top is 1000mm x 1000mm x 100mm with 6mm steel used. The frame is made up of 80mm x 80mm tube.

Thinking of putting together one twice the size but using 10mm or 13mm I thought the laser cutting was surprIsing cheap and the entire project, minus - gas and wire came to a little over £450. Let me know your thoughts , Thanks 👍

Almost done with the RestoMod on my Lincoln AC225

Added DC outputs, quick disconnects, a 50amp SR22-50 modular power inlet, and a 120v service module. Hammered dollied all casework, plugwelded the old lead holes, and painted most of the surfaces (all visible and most of the inside). Every last nut, bolt, connector, switch, wire, and compontent was scrubbed clean, burnished, painted, or replaced. It took about 30 days of part time labor to get to this point. I'm finishing up the decals and faceplate soon.

DC mode runs great!

Bought an old arc welder, and it needs a cart. Been having fun practicing SMAW, the last time I struck an arc was 25 years ago.

Nearly all of this metal was free, too. Hooray for scrap and free stuff.

I have a ways to go yet, but it feels good being able to post some tangible progress and see my beads get better with practice. I have a fair amount of experience with gas MiG, but very little with stick.

The cart/frame is for a Lincoln AC225 which I'm refurbishing and adding DC outputs. This machine was built in 1971 and still runs great. These old transformer based machines are built like tanks.

Mig welding gas

I'm just getting into welding, and I'm going to try and learn mig.

Truthfully, I haven't even attempted it yet. I've just been gathering the necessary material and this weekend I thought I had everything I needed.

Unfortunately, me being the ignorant person I am, I got an inert gas tank from a 3rd party and swapped it at my local airgas for a 100% argon tank.

Most of you probably see the problem. I haven't used any of the gas yet, and I'm hoping to be able to swap it back for the blend and pay the difference. However, if I'm unable to I wanna try and come up with some alternative options.

Option 1: I work at a brewery and was hoping our gas supplier would be willing to swap it, but I'm not sure on that.

Option 2: I'm trying to see if a gas blender is feasible, as I already own a CO2 tank. And perhaps I could use the argon tank later for tig welding and get a CO2 tank that isn't beverage grade and be all dandy in that regard.

Option 3: Just buy another tank, I like this option the least as they aren't cheap and that means the argon tank just sits there and collects dust.

Option 4: Just learn how to tig welding first.

What would you do in this scenario?

Testing an auto darkening welding helmet

I'm going to learn some welding and I've bought myself an auto darkening helmet. I tested it my holding it up to the sun, and it darkens, but stops darkening right away (depending on the delay I set). Also tried with a powerful flashlight and it does the same. Also left it outside for a while for the solar panel to maybe charge the battery, no dice. Is my helmet is defective or is it going to work as intended with real welding?
