Does anyone know what's happening to Allison Road?
I just found out about this game. Apparently it was canceled in 2016 only for development to resume later that year. It was supposed to be released in early 2025 but that didn't happen. I feel like I've been living under a rock, I don't know how this escaped my radar.

This is the demo of Heartworm released in 2022. There are quite a few differences between this and the final release. It's interesting to see a game in an earlier form. It's a free download on itch.io.
Currently playing Kholat
This game is more of walking simulator but it's still pretty neat. Navigation is achieved with a map and compass (which is in Russian) so it's kind of tricky at first but you get the hang of it eventually. All in all, I would recommend this game. Have any of you played this one?

This game looks and plays incredible. I'm still fairly early in the game but this game is really fucking cool so far. I highly recommend this game to anybody who's a fan of survival horror.

Labyrinth of the Demon King is pure retro horror gold
cross-posted from: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/26205515
After playing Lunacid I was looking for more retro horror dungeon crawlers, but I couldn't find anything that really went all in on it. But now Labyrinth of the Demon King is out and HOLY SHIT does it hit the mark.
It's described as Silent Hill x Kings Field and I feel it fits well. You have to accept the retro wrapping of it but god damn the horror is on point, the environments and sounds conjure so much atmospheric pressure, it remixes so many great elements from classical survival horrors and more modern ones (including more modern FromSoft games). I love also how it keeps both sides of the SH DNA, between moments of serene eerie fogged exteriors and the dark claustrophobic unending nightmare of the interiors. Some parts feel very Lost in Vivo if you've played it which I also loved. I don't have 300 screenshots cause I'm too caught in :D
I think the trailer that sold me on it last year still gives the most accurate vibe to the gritty dark disgusting nightmares the game crushes you with. Only shows a bit of the gameplay but it plays like a mix of of an RPG survival horror and Condemned, but it’s not a pure RPG with incredible depth it’s more tools of survival. It’s not perfect but for a game that just came out I feel it could have some staying power in the niche and the dev seems motivated to update it so far!

Alisa: The Parting Announcement Trailer
Sorry it's kinda late, I just found out this game was announced. Steam page linked below:

This was a pretty good one, I think. It has strong Silent Hill vibes and an interesting (though perhaps somewhat confusing) story, and it's also on sale now.
As for the length, I was able to beat the normal difficulty game in under 9 hours.

I just finished DreadOut: Keepers of the Dark after playing the first one. I was pretty impressed with both games seeing as they were the first "serious" games to come out of Indonesia. I really enjoy learning about Indonesian folklore as well. I'm playing DreadOut 2 now so I'll probably be posting about that.
For anyone who hasn't heard of DreadOut, it's an Indonesian survival horror game that often gets compared to Fatal Frame. You use a phone camera to banish spirits sort of like Fatal Frame.
Playing Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition
I'm currently playing one of the greatest, and most influential games of all time once again.
Playing Those Who Remain
I'd say this is more psychological horror but Steam says it's survival horror so I'm counting it. The game seems heavily influenced by Silent Hill 2 for better or worse. The game mostly has you completing environmental puzzles and walking, it's not as bad as it sounds.. So far it's alright, not particularly amazing but I can't complain too much. The game is lacking lots of graphic settings which sucks but I can live with it. I'll update if I decide it sucks.
Three games with fewer than 200 reviews each on Steam
Just in time for the weekend, I thought I'd share 3 games that I enjoyed, but might have flew under the radar for most people.
I'll start this off with Your Spider, which has only 13 reviews on Steam. It's been a while since I last played it, but I remember liking it much more than I thought I would. Maybe I'm just a sucker for adorable spiders though.
Steam shows it as not supported on Steam Deck, but it seemed to work just fine on mine.
The game focuses more on puzzles than direct combat, and some of the bosses can only harmed by doing specific things in the right order or at the right time.
Next up is Among Ashes with about 184 reviews. It's somewhat short, but ended up being quite good. The "game within a game" concept is a really nice touch. It does a good job at building tension and generally doesn’t rely on cheap jump scares.
And last, while I guess this game isn't classified as a survival-horror game, I'm including 10 Dead Doves here anyway. Because with only 116 Steam reviews so far, it doesn't feel to me like enough people know about it.
I think some of the reviews on Steam do a better job than I ever could of describing what makes this game special. But it's one of the few games I that made me want to play through a second time. Interesting story, some funny moments, emotional moments, good voice acting. I highly recommend this one.
