Help with METEO/AVI-2-GBA

So I know the quality is bad but watching stuff on a gameboy advance during bus rides that I suffered to fit on the flash cart just somehow seems more attractive than watching the same thing on my phone in infinitely higher quality.

Anyway I've been able to encode the video data just fine using METEO versions 1.4/1.5/1.5(mod) but my audio always sounds completely corrupted, nothing remains of the orignal audio and I just a sound like static mixed with grinding metal. (checked on 2 emulators and my own GBA hardware)

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing it?

Requesting Feedback on a (very early) GB Studio project

Project Zip

So to be clear there is no real gameplay or even non-placeholder sprites. What I do have is my most basic core functionality optimized as best I know how to do for the time being and I'd love some feedback on anything I could optimize further before getting into the weeds with fleshing out the project.

Controls so far are:

  • WASD/Direction Pad to move
  • Tap A/Z to throw objects
  • Hold A/Z to recall objects

Thrown objects that miss will be instantly re-called as I can't find a means to activate the recall object on the end point of a projectile as that part of the plugin is broken.

Thrown objects that hit the test target in the top middle will be retained until re-called at which point they will run back.

Help understanding flash carts (I have a legitimate ROM)

So I got a GBA and a couple of games as a retro gift this christmas and when looking into some ways to personalize it with things like a new shell or a backlit screen I stumbled upon the fact that someone has made a semi-functional SNES emulator for the console. Now I have an old SNES and a super mario world cartridge for it so I figure it would be awesome if I could play super mario world on my new GBA.

From a cursory examination it looks like the standard method is to buy a special cartridge and then a special usb adapter to flash data onto that cartridge... which is frankly expensive as fuck... But I've also seen something about GBA cartridges that take an SD card and am wondering if that works just as well as a more accessable option?

This is my primary source of info

Gameboy Pocket with Gameboy Light screen mod

So.... I went to a DIY market today and found this guy selling restored and modded Gameboys. Couldn't get over the cuteness factor here-- a Gameboy Pocket modded with the IPS backlit screen of a Gameboy Light Pokémon, with two USB-C rechargeable batteries included. It came with the game, which I test played and loved.

I then randomly drew four games, the whole thing coming down to about 95 euros.... yes... I know that I totally overpaid, but I'm brand new to the modding market and otherwise don't have the drive or time to find reliable sources in my area. Very happy to get One Piece, Tetris, and Doraemon (but not the meaningless horse race betting game) in the draw, but it's all in Japanese! Will have to figure this out.

I waa super excited to see GBA Rhythm Heaven offered from mint condition to second hand, but the guy was selling them for at least 22 euros and I had to get a Gameboy Advance to play it.... so I guess that's that for now.

I hope that with this ridiculous purchase, I won't be tempted to buy Playdate.

GBA tactile button mod?

Hi all! I recently learned about the tactile button mod for the GBA, but I’m seeing that it’s possible to hit all 4 direction buttons at once unless you put some cardboard under the membrane, but Mahko states that makes the d pad difficult to press over long periods of time.

Has there been any update made for this mod to fix the issue with it?

All ModRetro Launch Games for Chromatic & Game Boy Color Reviewed

ModRetro is bringing back cartridges! They're publishing newly developed GameBoy and GameBoy Color games, manufacturing actual cartridges, and selling them in stores. In addition to making the Chromatic, a pretty darn good FPGA Game Boy Color compatible system, they're making a line of new games on cartridges. These titles not only work on the Chromatic but also on anything that can play GameBoy or GameBoy Color. I review all six launch titles, including:

  • Tales in Monsterland DX: A charming platformer with RPG elements.
  • Dragonyhm: A delightful turn-based RPG with exploration and puzzle-solving.
  • Toki Tori Ultimate Edition: A challenging puzzle-platformer.
  • Patchy Matchy: A fast-paced puzzle game.
  • Traumatarium Penitent: A hardcore, resource-management RPG.
  • In the Dark 2: A sci-fi adventure with logic puzzles.

Orange FM – Radio in a cart

Orange FM is a cartridge for Game Boy that allows you to listen to FM radio stations through your Game Boy’s speakers (on certain models, see compatibility chart below). It features an internal antenna for strong signals, as well as support for external antennas connected to the cart’s audio jack. In addition to mono audio output through the console, the cart delivers stereo audio through the cart’s audio jack to connected headphones or speakers.
