tl;dr: is it true that the small sub-fief console (not advanced one, the one we start with at the very beginning) does not have a tax?

I anticipate a few weeks of AFK, when I probably won't be able to pay the tax for my base. Fortunately I am in the process of moving from the starting area, so I don't really have a base ATM.

I've seen some discussions about how to approach holidays but those were mostly about stashing all important things in one of the cities. There was some comment somewhere about the small sub-fief not requiring tax.
But I can't find this info anywhere out of the game.

What I've been thinking of doing was to plan my base with advanced sub-fief in mind but for now put down the small one if it really doesn't need to be payed for
Would that work?

I've been experiencing freezes after ~1h of playing. Those are hard freezes when even switching workspace doesn't work. Restarting the game helps for another hour

I've tried what few options from protondb but haven't noticed much change

Am I the only one?
