The Mountain Man - Bloodlust [Deathcore/Doom Metal]

-=-=[ The Mountain Man ]=-=-

Title: Bloodlust

Genre: Deathcore/Doom Metal

Lineup:

Tevyn Pacey - Bass

Ryan McCreedy - Drums

Jordan Orr - Guitars

Tyson Tambellini - Guitars

Parker Lane - Vocals

Notes: Wanted to hear those weird deathcore vocals but slowwww. So now we got this, a 24 minute fun ride. Each track has its own unique flavor, but our favorite has to be the last one, "Ghost". Was listening to this in the headbanging stance while stirring the oatmeal pot.

Oh, do send your recommendations to what you think fits the "deathcore doom" vibe.

Doom:VS - Aeternum Vale [Funeral/Death] [FFO: Ahab, Mizmor]

Doom:VS - Aeternum Vale [Funeral/Death] [FFO: Ahab, Mizmor]

When I listened to this I was transported to this place, the place depicted on the album cover. Dead, desolate, vast, and grey. I don't think this album is unique in any musical way, but its atmosphere is unmatched. Metal Archives lists Ahab on the Similar Artists tab, but I couldn't help but think of Mizmor. More specifically, Mizmor's "Cairn".

Also it sounds so modern and ahead of its time, like, there's no way this was produced in 2006!!!

Indian - From All Purity [Sludge/Doom Metal/Noise] [FFO: Primitive Man, Thou, Grief, The Body]

Very impressive. A shortie but a goodie almost 40 minutes. Full, hard, noisy, angry.

They've got that, those Thou screams, they sound a bit like Primitive Man, which makes sense given that I got Indian from the similar artists tab. They also remind me a tiny bit of Celeste, must be the hardcore elements. They've got a sound which seems to just, raise doom, in the literal sense of the word. Like imagine someone screaming from the top of their lungs atop a high vantage point, and the earth having been split and spewing all kinds of sounds and fire. As all of this is happening, the vocalist seems to open their arms wide open, and moving them up and up and up, as to accept and invite more doom to the world.

Hah, the first bit when the vocals hit I was like "Finally! Some good black metal adjacent vocals!"

On the end of "Rhetoric of No" track the noise at the end reminds me of a rattlesnake.

Favorite Tracks:

  • Rape
  • The Impetus Bleeds
  • Rhetoric of No

EDIT: Perhaps the only thing that is a bit sad about this album, is that it's short, and I'm already rewinding it.

Skraeckoedlan - El Monstro

More stoner/sludge metal of a somewhat psychedelic variety with a female guest vocalist today. This one from Sweden, performed in Swedish. Their second LP released in 2015 and kicks ass. Linked is the fifth track. Awesome riffing throughout the album and a generally laid-back vocal performance really help to make this particular album stand apart imo. The beautiful pastel album art is different as well!

Hemelbestormer - Usil

Been going through a bunch of post-metal recently and my recommended algorithm is a bit all over the place at the moment, so actual tracks I want to keep are few and far between currently.

However, this one here tickles my fancy in a weird way. The band doesn't stick to just one genre on this album and it's not exactly cohesive or well-blended, but I do like the songwriting on individual parts to songs. Not this one that's linked here though, It blends pretty will imo and I feel it fits perfectly in this community, despite being instrumental only.

These guys are from Belgium, and this is from their latest album released in July 2025.

Fall of Efrafa - Last but Not Least

Uk's crust punk/sludge metal band with clear intent to adapt the mythology of the novel called "Watership Down" into this kind of extreme music. This is from their first of three albums released in 2006. Linked is probably their namesake song as you can hear it mentioned in the lyrics.

With this artist being punk-related here, there might be some aspects that aren't for everyone, like for myself, it's the voice - it took me a few spins for me to not mind it so much. But I've relented to say it matches the music well enough, which is crushing and pessimistic, yet melodic in a way; even epic when it speeds up occasionally. A great way to spend an afternoon is to go through the whole trilogy of albums.

Moan - Exempt [Doom/Sludge]

Quite underrated. I found them when I searched for themes of "Pain" and for a genre of "Sludge".

It's only available on Bandcamp. I plan to upload this on youtube for my Favorites 2025 playlist. The playlist starts as some random mix of songs, then takes a detour on Progressive, Black, Doom, and now Sludge. It's been one hell of a year, and more specifically, one hell of a three months.

The Well - Mortal Bones

Stoner/doom band with psychedelic elements from Austin, Texas, USA released this debut in 2014. Fuzzy haze and slightly trippy atmosphere kinda hearkens to the desert of where they sorta come from - or rather - are next to lol. Excellent beat and sound from this trio, might be worth looking into their other releases, tho they seem to play more closely to stoner rock on those.
