how do I interact with other instances?

I like the app but everytime I wanna upvote or comment a post made through another instance the app won't let me unless I make an account for every instance. How do I get around this?

Make sure you don't have an empty lemmy.ml instance in your accounts settings in Liftoff. This happened to me with lemmy.world which was apparently there by default. If there is one then long press it and remove it.

Yes..if there are any empty instances, the app will automatically connect to it and says that login to comment....

Interact with communities via your instances only. If other instances are accessed directly, you are treated as anonymous.

For example I scroll my feed which is set to All. I then open a post for example on lemmy.ml and when I try to upvote it or comment it says I have to log in using lemmy.ml (or whatever instance it requires). This doesn't happen when I'm using Thunder or Jerboa

The only instances you can't interact with when the show everything setting is on are instances that have defederated from lemmy.world

That definitely doesn't sound right. How are you navigating to these posts exactly?

Hmm sorry I've tried my best to recreate it but seems to be working fine for me. Only thing I can think is you've somehow become logged out on the app itself? If not, hopefully someone else can help!

I can reply and interact with lemmy.world just fine, but as long as I try with a post made through an other instance it says I can't. I tried to redownload the app as well

I have this setting turned on, apparently it says I can't interact with other instances, can't upvote or comment. But if I turn the setting off I only see content from Lemmy.world

With it off you should be seeing lemmy.world's All feed, which is all the content your instance knows about regardless of where it is. It may say "via lemmy.world" but you'll seeing content from all over.

I've tried turning the everything feed on and still can't recreate the problem though so clearly I am no expert 😅

I think I understand now. I thought keeping that setting on wouldn't allow me to see the entirety of the content on Lemmy. I turned it off now
