It's actually pretty easy if you have the right biscuit cutters, it's just a pile of biscuits joined together with a bit of icing. I do like the effect of the two types of biscuit together. Rolling and cutting everything out did take a while though.
Looks awesome! I did these as presents a couple of years ago. I just used butter biscuits though, but deviated with coloured icing ball things and some silver stars. They’re pretty easy but look awesome.
✅ pulled an all nighter from 4pm to 7am and actually completed everything in the project with the hours given
✅ packed everything up and returned it all to the office
✅ actually had a good one on one reconciliatory chat with the boss who owned up to being severely burnt out and dropping the ball with staff - seriously planning to accelerate his retirement and handing over of the business
✅ still made it to the Christmas thing and actually enjoyed it - even won $50 - and had many long goodbyes, everything ending on a good note
✅ jammed in some last minute heavy grocery shopping on the way home despite insane traffic, and then dropped the car off elsewhere with 5 min to spare
✅ grabbed some brisling sardines on the way back for a simple repast of rice and fish
✅ almost caught up on messages, finally sinking into the couch; fully awake and engaged for 34 hours and counting...
At long last, it is all done. And I am proud of myself for finally arriving here. I'm so happy that the slate is clean and I made it... Bring on the next chapter in the new year!!!
Last two Christmas markets are both in Cologne. Cologne has a bunch of markets and we visited 4 of them. Our last day today was very wet and windy, so in the end it was a bit of a down day because we were a bit melancholy about our holiday finishing and having to head back to reality. It’s been an amazing trip and we’ve had such an incredible time.
Best markets: Würzburg (our first proper Christmas market and it snowed, plus Ravenna Gorge and the medieval-themed market in Munich because it was just so much fun (there was an Irish folk band playing and the vibes were super fun).

It took me a long time to be able to listen to this, but I just listened to my late friend's Spotify list.. he shared it with me a few months before he ended his life. It's only About 20 songs. One is Johnny Cash - Hurt, and that was the first that played when I plucked up the courage to listen. Fuck it hurts.

OH CHRIST JESUS.
I thought I'd mentioned that Zooks caught a rat and then it escaped under the couch when she did the Yowl of Triumph, but that was when some of us were having login problems (including me).
Well I thought it had escaped but either I somehow missed it or it came back and carked it under the other couch - not the one that I sit on but the one I've been using as a laundry folding station. I thought somethng smelt meaty, checked under the couch, and... yep.
I loathe dealing with dead things but I couldn't really call the lawn guy at 10 at night and I didn't want to have it in the house overnight, so I got it outside and in the bin - after having to put it back in the bag after I thought it was gathered up and then realising the bag felt suspiciously light. Uggghhhhh.
Eucalyptus oil is sprinkled on the spot, both loungeroom windows are open and the fan is on, and since I had washing on that couch, it's all in the washing machine - since the lot next door is vacant.
Now I'm having one of the vodka cruisers I luckily bought today and am going to watch something fluffy and consoling.
FUCKOFF FRIDAY: "Boxing Day Sales" are meaningless when they start before Boxing Day. I've seen several big-name stores saying BOXING DAY SALES NOW ON.. it's not Boxing Day. Same thing happened with "Black Friday" sales.
I know it's kind of petty of me to be annoyed by this but if they're going to keep starting their 'X-Day' sales earlier and earlier to try and get a jump on getting customers before their competitors rather than actually competing on price, just scrap the concept entirely or call it a 'season' sale or something.
It was in Thingz, a store that's common in Perth but not in Melbourne. If you must have it, I can buy it and post it. I can't see it getting to you by Monday, though. 😔
I like the idea of owning one but I actually have a full cupboard of cups, so I don't really need it. Yes, I talk myself out of impulsive purchases a lot ! Thankyou though, that's very kind of you to offer.
Yeah that can fuck right off. As can Xmas screensavers that make noise. If you aren’t in the room no need to torture everybody else! (Yes, this is an old one)
My kid asked me if I was excited for Christmas and I told her I was excited for Christmas pudding and for it to be over. I was then called a grinch so that makes two of us.
My end of work year tradition is going out for a burger and pint to celebrate the start of holidays. About to try Sonny’s in Carlton, inside the Curtin. Haven’t been here in ages, doesnt feel like it’s changed at all. Not every pub needs a bougie makeover.
A big old lampshade was left at the food cupboard (some people seem to turn everywhere in to a dump site) and I grabbed it. Once I replace the cover with some netting it should be a perfect cabbage-moth free zone to grow some pak choy in.
This is less antique lace and more cheap lace curtains like everyone used to have. It does have both fringe and tassels though, so it definitely would have been considered a bit fancy.
Still here. Been looking at what I can grab tomorrow to fill out Christmas presents. Presents that I today discovered will not be arriving until after Christmas. Mutters expletives Looks like a quick morning trip into Minotaur is on the cards.
Elder likes Five nights at Freddy's merch and Miniest has appointed Snorlax as a spirit animal, so it won't be too hard, just annoying when I wanted to vegetate and do nothing. I didn't downvote you by the way.
Aw things we do for our kids. My daughter this year will receive perfume, a epilator and cash. Missed out on putting it straight into her account. Btw I think you're a great mum.
Down votes are irrelevant if the person doesn't speak up about what offended them.
I went into Chemest Warehouse and ask for Arianna Grande perfume and discovered there was a few. I then had to find the link she sent me. I've never felt so old in my life when I pointed and said "that's the one".
They're usually my first port of call. This time I was organising click and collect with them for some Snorlax merch because I knew they wouldn't likely deliver it to me on time. They first said the items were in store and then had to tell me they were mistaken and they aren't, so their policy is to then priority freight it to me, but even that's scheduled to arrive after Christmas, hence my predicament. A rare problem for me with them, as I usually find they're great with anything I need.
I just made an emergency run for sprinkles, and the shops are a bit chaotic. Carpark gridlock and people swarming everywhere, I almost ran over an old woman crossing the road. Then I had one of those illuminating moments where I realised the "old woman" was probably around my age 🤣
I did at least secure a packet of sprinkles (the last one on the shelf).
I think I might make a gingerbread Christmas tree today to take to work on Sunday. I saw one that does every second biscuit as a sugar biscuit not gingerbread, which both looks good and suits people who don't like gingerbread. Last time I made one I used too much icing between the biscuits to join it together and it stuck as a solid gingerbread lump, so I won't be doing that again. I might skip the icing all together, just stack them up and dust with icing sugar.
STABILFOAM is a food grade propylene glycol alginate, specially developed and produced as foam stabilizer for beer. It gives to beer a more stable, longer-lived, creamier foam.
I forgot to put up my advent calendar decorations
forgot to play my xmas albums
tree still isn't up
looks like this is the first year I just don't have it in me
it's ok, needs more flour. The moulds are gonna look great. :)
am testing icing this weekend
I'm just doing it for this one nice fam member, she works so hard over xmas and this is a special treat for her that she looks forward to
I don't like the gingerbread recipe I used, the dough was a sticky mess and really hard to work with. I had to roll it between baking paper sheets, scrape away the dough around the cutters, and transfer them to the tray still on the paper. The first lot of biscuits are out of the oven and look good at least.
The second lot of sugar biscuits have the opposite problem - the dough really hardened up after chilling so I'm having to let it warm up so I can roll it.
Edit: the sugar biscuit dough was much nicer to work with. All the biscuits are now cut, just waiting on the baking. There is plenty of dough left of both types, so I'll bake some biscuits on Boxing Day to take in for the other team I work with.
Last day of Washmas, that sacred time of year where after many moons of monsoonal cairns-like weather I spend three days and three nights working through the backlog of washing to ensure clean underpants for the new year.
Slept and slept well! Feeling like a human being again today. Just under 3 hours to go until the bosses informally tell us we can finish up at lunch time like they do every year before xmas. Wondering if I want to go for a drive to buy some ludicrously loud summer and/or Hawaiian shirts to brighten up my wardrobe for the sunny season and also for the cruise. Not sure if Friday afternoon before Christmas or post-Boxing day week would be more hectic.
with His Lordship's giant present I stuffed it into his christmas sack, then covered the bit that stuck out with another sack (the one we use to take presents to rellies) and cinched it to hell. He's gonna beeline for it anyway.
Just standing waiting for my take away sandwich at my local listening to this guy do from what I can gather is some phone interview. He is complaining about the diversity at the ABC and how the weatherman who's in a wheel chair is hard to hear and one of the camp/gay presenters (his words) are hard to watch, he finds it repulsive? What the duck is wrong with people?
That's a lie. No one watches fta any more. (That's sarcasm)
I'm gonna say this in the nicest way possible. There's cunts in this world who do and say the most cuntest things. You don't need to know what is wrong with them. You just need to stay away.
I hope your sandwich is good and he trips on his own feet and smashes his phone into a million pieces.
Mother Earth is pregnant for the third time... for y'all have knocked her up. I have tasted the maggots in the mind of the universe... I was not offended - for I knew I had to rise above it all, or drown in my own shit.
This is great advice if you're looking for a specific lego set for a kid. I've found a couple of years now that the city Target/Kmart/Myer will be the only one to have whatever set I'm chasing in stock during the boxing day sales.
I find drying to be the bit I really don't like - something about handling soggy tea towels is just unpleasant. The washing bit is not too bad when there is plenty of room for everything to drain and air dry.
Washing up is mostly just tedious, especially when you are doing a lot of cooking and are doing load after load of it. Being able to do the bulk of it in the dishwasher and just hand wash the few bits that need it is definitely my preference.
I don't have room to leave everything to dry when I'm doing a lot of cooking. The washed dishes tend to overflow the draining board, plus I use that space for other things while I cook.
Drying sucks because most teatowels suck. Some actually dry the dishes but quickly become a sopping wad of uselessness. Most just smear water about unhelpfully and distribute tiny material fibres in the process. Especially with glasses.
Yep. Good quality LINEN teatowels are the best I've found yet. And they are immortal. I'm still using the ones I bought 20 plus years ago. And they get better and more absorbent with age.
Hate to say this, but the ALDI teatowels are crap, and the less said about Kmart ones the better. I have been gifted these, but had to toss them out after less than a year. Get the ones marked 'glass cloth', toss in the wash after each washup session and put out a new one. Linen teatowels also work well as oven mitts (don't get me started on these).
It can be hard to find linen teatowels, they are almost always cotton. Teatowels are one thing that improves with age, they seem to need a few washes to work well. Even the cheap ones benefit from a few washes. I have a couple of cheap awful ones from work that were useless new but have become ok after multiple washes.
Myer used to stock good linen ones and may still do so, but try Hotel Agencies in Fitzroy. Most homewares shops have pretty coloured crap. I really like the ones the professionals use. More costly, but as mentioned before - functionally immortal. I have a stock of about 20 and that's a good number to have on hand, being two weeks worth of usage plus some spares. I do chuck them in the wash before they get too soggy though so a single day of intense cooking can use a few. Also check the shop rag market - this is where the linen from failed restaurants often ends up. You purchase by the kilo - some will be stained or require a bit of mending but this can often be fixed with a napisan soak and a bit of hand sewing. For the price, definitely worth it if you are looking for good quality kitchen linens at a bargain basement price or lower.
Maybe you are like me and hate drying? Cleaning the bathroom involves lots of satisfying making things clean, with no drying up and a lot less of the tedious putting things away.
I don’t mind drying, but yes soggy towels are ick. Washing might link to having to do No Name dog food tins before recycling. Really unpleasant smell and squishy goop 🤢
Last day of work. I'm not achieving much, brain thinks the holidays have already started. Tying up some loose ends and everything else is a new year problem. So keen for the few weeks off.
Phew. Finished work until after Christmas (I'm working the 27th and 28th) and got the last of the supplies - I just have to take around some more chocs and make the house look like humans live here, as Mum used to say.
Also called work about difficult client and only have to go once more (first job on the 27th alas). So major brownie points acquired for sucking it up for one last shift and then I never have to see them again. \O/
Now there's a bit of debate as to how you go about it. One thought is to get a bunch of paper bags, hang them in bunches upside down and they magically fall off.
I have not found that to actually work.
But believe me best bet I've found is lay down some newspaper and go manually into a bowl which sucks and also brings us to today's RAVE CHOON:
Just going to continue my drunken ranting. The Dixie Chicks being forced to be called The Chicks, and Lady Antebellum similarly changing their name to Lady A is bullshit.

Yes, I did.

Thanks for all the posts and pics.
Thank you for sharing these pics. They were truly wonderful.
Agreed with @Thornburywitch! This is so my jam and I love that you’ve done this!
Cheers everyone and Merry Christmas 🍺🧑🎄🎉🎁🎄🎁🎅🤶 🐖🥔🎀

I wasn't brave enough to buy this for anyone in my family, but I'd get this for you Bull if you came to Christmas:
I wish I could use that at work.
Guess they’ll have to settle on the look in my face.

This Christmas I'll be having pot noodle and a walk, I think.
My kid asked me if I was excited for Christmas and I told her I was excited for Christmas pudding and for it to be over. I was then called a grinch so that makes two of us.
I’m not doing Christmas with the family this year.
Guess that makes me a Grinch too?
i don't know how i can fall asleep tonight it's been so long so much happened i'm so so excited to see them again
Is it Santa and his reindeers? 3 more sleeps pet. Just 3 more sleeps.

I thought you were 18? You dropping reviews at 11? Are you the kid who was in resi care until recently? Have i got my wires crossed?
I hope things are working out for you. It's kind of wild to me as the internet barely existed when I was 9.
A big old lampshade was left at the food cupboard (some people seem to turn everywhere in to a dump site) and I grabbed it. Once I replace the cover with some netting it should be a perfect cabbage-moth free zone to grow some pak choy in.
Dye it black for an ultra-goth parasol/veil.
It's like something I would have made in the 80s. 🤓 I used to dye antique lace and get the really fancy frames.
This is less antique lace and more cheap lace curtains like everyone used to have. It does have both fringe and tassels though, so it definitely would have been considered a bit fancy.

Just watching some telly.
Haven't been listening to much music lately, but currently drunk and listening to some favs. Feels good 👍
I'm glad you're having a good time 👍

There's a fine line between a really good gingerbread structure and one that's made of cement that you need a hammer to crack.
it's good for living in
Um, track record not good. Especially when two children come and break off bits to eat. Make sure your pizza oven in the backyard is NOT lit.
alright it's off
don't mind if i store some dragon fireworks in the tent?
Not at all. Be my guest.
Yeah I guess. You wouldn't starve so that's a bonus.
Thought this would have like a little seaweed salty taste, it does not, and at $5.50 a can I feel annoyed.
reminds me of the bellarine beer co. They used to have a beer that had mollusk sediment at the bottom.
never again.

various pastels with a lemon flavour

not with the amount of biking I do!

Picked up the giant present. Got what I thought was a giant bag for it and of course it’s too small. Now I have to figure out if I want to wrap it…
Still need to pick up something from the post office.
And people cannot drive. 😑

with His Lordship's giant present I stuffed it into his christmas sack, then covered the bit that stuck out with another sack (the one we use to take presents to rellies) and cinched it to hell. He's gonna beeline for it anyway.
Haha, that was kind of what I was going for, but I got busted.
Present has been identified.
Oh well, saves the copious amounts wrapping paper I was going to waste.
Stick a ribbon rosette on it, done.
Well, I'm done for the working year!🍾🎉 I'm enjoying my gorgeous geisha tea gift with my feet up.

Well someone's watching MAFS and it ain't me!
I had to google mafs. It's a show called Married at First Sight.
Now I know this show exists, and I don't think my world is brighter for it. That sounds like a terrible premise for a TV show.
MAFS and The Block are keeping channel 9 afloat. The ads alone make me what to hurt a poor innocent.

Why does everything fun involve washing up? Please send house elves.
House elves would be nice, but the closest I can get is my dishwasher. Which has done three loads today, so I am very grateful to have it.
I think washing up gets a hard go it's not that bad.
*ducks for cover
I find drying to be the bit I really don't like - something about handling soggy tea towels is just unpleasant. The washing bit is not too bad when there is plenty of room for everything to drain and air dry.
Washing up is mostly just tedious, especially when you are doing a lot of cooking and are doing load after load of it. Being able to do the bulk of it in the dishwasher and just hand wash the few bits that need it is definitely my preference.
Have I been doing it all wrong all these years? I just put them in a drying rack and pack it up later.
I actually agree with this. Mind you, I do not and have never had a dishwasher (other than my bloke and the kids).
I’d rather clean bathrooms. Can’t exactly articulate why. Least fav chore. Ugh!
Nothing like a 14 hour end of year reset sleep. Now to clean up and wrap a couple last minute presents.
And hello! I have been lurking here from a different instance but they keep having tech difficulties so I've joined the aussie zone instance.
Welcome. It's Saturday now in Oz so you might like to post in that daily thread.
Haha yeah I am in Melbourne but just generally discombobulated by Christmas. See you tomorrow/today...
Onya. 👍
Welcome. 😊 🍺☕🍪🍩
Shirley Manson let's loose at a Christmas concert
i was expecting farts
Hahaha. I could've written many headlines. I could've spelt *lets right.
You could have edited your typo. You can still edit your typo, but then these replies will look a bit funny.
That's true. It's ironic that I have to correct auto correct. I could take that off too but meh.
Ooo @[email protected] it's getting interesting now.
I think I’ve backed the losing team tonight :/
Whoa. CEO-1 Duenan-0 . Good game. Tbh I would've picked the Strikers.
Damn. Short by 1 run, that was a close one!
Tomorrows apparently the double header. First game at 3pm.
Can’t remember who is playing. Melbourne stars I think Vs ??
I’ll get you next time!
1st game Stars vs Thunder
2nd game Hurricanes vs Renegades
Place your bets. Don't make me go against my team the Renegades.
How about we alternate games? You choose first for the first game since I did tonight and I’ll choose first for the 2nd game.
I choose the Hobart Hurricanes for the 2nd match.
Oh you are too kind. I normally go for the Stars but they are playing crap lately so I'll go for the Thunder. Renegades and Thunder. Lock it in Eddie.
All locked in. Let’s see how it all goes tomorrow.
Good luck!
I spoke too soon! 6 from 3 balls now!
That was a great come back.
Last day of work. I'm not achieving much, brain thinks the holidays have already started. Tying up some loose ends and everything else is a new year problem. So keen for the few weeks off.
I'm trying to achieve something. But finding someone to peer-review/approve my code is proving challenging.
One Day More!
Really winning this holiday season, fucked my leg and now I have a huge coldsore (this thing is bordering on having its own orbit)....
Oh dear. No mistletoe for you.
need to find someone with a matching coldsore
The best Christmas song ever.

Noooo. Shaky's better. 😠
This is my top pick right now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sV0yxM6R3VE
😂 I'll slip that into the list later. Thanks
I'm in the sort of mood where there may end up being a cricut stencil of the garden of earthly delights on the bathroom wall.
Quietly covets your circut
Honestly the locked-in software is a massive piece of shit if you come into it from the wide open source of 3D printing
That would be annoying.
sneaks you monies to get a silhouette instead
or me a silhouette and you can have the maker 3

Hey @[email protected] who you going for tonight the Sixers or Strikers at the SCG?
Ooohh tough one.
Think I’m going to go Adelaide Strikers tonight. How about you?
Well to keep it interesting I'll go the Sixers 👍 howzat.
This could be a low total for the Sixers tonight. Wonder if the Strikers will have better luck?
I still have hope for the Sixers.
Today is coriander dry seed harvest day.
They've been in since feb.
Now there's a bit of debate as to how you go about it. One thought is to get a bunch of paper bags, hang them in bunches upside down and they magically fall off.
I have not found that to actually work.
But believe me best bet I've found is lay down some newspaper and go manually into a bowl which sucks and also brings us to today's RAVE CHOON:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUGy7NIzrXY
I would cut the seed heads off , take them inside and pick the seeds on a table or big bench
Yea that's unfortunately the way.
Was hoping they'd pop off by themselves but that just isn't true :(
I don't like pop music much but I really like Dua Lipa. I only know 3 songs but I like them.
Last rave choon for the
day:yearhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AKSpPkZAuE
You know when you're on the home page and in the box it says Active, New, Old, Controversial. What does Scaled mean?
If you continue to pursue this, you'll end up in a quiet, black box.
I will take that as fact coz it's the internet.
Just going to continue my drunken ranting. The Dixie Chicks being forced to be called The Chicks, and Lady Antebellum similarly changing their name to Lady A is bullshit.
