To explain 1200 baud was the next step up from the first true computer modem; the 300 baud modem (circa 1980) was so slow you could watch the characters as they appeared on the screen. 1200 baud was a major upgrade; at the time everything was text, no colors, nothing fancy; 1200 baud was like the cable modem of it's time.
