Thank you for the sorting update, the transition from Apollo has been flawless, loving my new home!

+1! Wefwef+Lemmy is definitely scratching the itch.

29

Yup spent a day trying to scroll Facebook and hated every second of it. Lemmy+wefwef = A good time

What are you looking for in an iOS app? If it was an iOS app, it would just be a wrapper web view.

34

Might make it easier for normal people to find. First thing I did was search the App Store for Lemmy. There was nothing there of course. It wasn’t until a couple days later I came across wefwef and am super happy with it.

Does the PWA allow for haptic feedback? I miss the satisfying clunk associated with actions

31

This is the only thing keeping m me from using wefwef. I’m using Memmy instead because it’s similar enough but has the haptics.

For me it might be notifications. But I believe Apple at least recently got the api working to allow for notifications via web apps.

Implementing that, however, may be another story. But it'd be neat.

Web apps can notify.

However I'm not sure - that might require a backend server to SEND notifications to your device.

Yes once things calm down a bit I’d love to request Lemmy to support web push.

Elk, a web client for Mastodon, can send push notifications because mastodon supports Web Push 😁

16

Yeah, I believe you’re right. And spinning up something like that may be out of the scope of this project (costs and whatnot). Which is fine. But it would be some neat gold plating.

5

Wefwef is already a hosted application so I don't see why it wouldn't be able to handle push notifications for the installed clients on the hosted wefwef instance. Besides the code not being implemented yet of course.

One think I have noticed is that Apple has done a poor implementation for notifications on PWAs. But other than that I don’t see a reason to go native.

8

It’s getting better. There is a fix for sound not working in the next version of iOS.

Remember indexeddb? That took Apple years to get right :/

9

While I am completely in love with the web app format, the main reason I’d like to see an AppStore app is for you to make some $$$ and continue development for a very long time ❤️

4

I’ve got an iPhone 14 Pro with the 120hz display. The animations in Apollo were flawless and just incredibly smooth/responsive.

My only critique of wefwef is that some animations seem a bit clunky and don’t seem to take advantage of the higher refresh rate. Is this a limitation of webapps? Or could this be improved with later updates?

2

You will be surprised how many people have never heard of PWA/webapp. They install Angry Birds from the app store and expect all apps to be installed and updated the same way. Having it listed in the app store will significantly increase the visibility of your app as well, reaching more people who are not familiar with the "lists" that only core Lemmy fans have seen.

Also, many people are biased against web apps because of previous experience.

Please

  1. Publish to the App Store
  2. Add a donate button to the app
  3. Take my money

I love what’s happening with this thing so much!

It takes a bit of digging, but you can support them through GitHub!

9

I’m trying to tip wefwef, and I have been to GitHub, and I found the thread about contributing… but still no place to tip that I can easily find. Any link would be appreciated.

nice! would be great to have a setting to choose our preferred sorting option for comments too

19

Love it! This was the #1 feature I was really hoping for soon.

Would you consider adding the ability for a custom date range? ie 6 months ago, or maybe even between day aa/aa/aa to zz/zz/zz?

Loving wefwef, thanks for the amazing work you’ve done.

Edit: Also when I select a sort by option, maybe it could become the default? For example, if I sort comments by top then top will be the default until I change it again.

10

I kinda wished reddit had that too. Particularly if you want to catch up on news after x amount of time

3

Not sure if this is being considered, but if I open an image and then use the "back" gesture, it navigates the page behind the image backwards, instead of closing the image. I like you can swipe up to dismiss the image but it's like muscle memory for me to use the back gesture to get "back" to where I was. Love all the updates! My favorite app so far.

7

There is already an issue submitted on that one. Been watching it myself since it can be annoying. It is for any popups too like new comments

3

Will there be a way of graying out posts that you have already clicked into

7

You’ve put a ton of work into this! I just donated on GitHub, hope this continues to expand, love your app :)

This app has made the switch from reddit / Apollo painless and it works great so far. Many thanks for that! One thing I am struggling a bit with is I can’t seem to find a way to filter out communities.

I used to love browsing the all feed and don’t mind the porn, but I was just shown about half a dozen different furry cocks engaged in various gay activities all from the same community, during my short morning scroll.

That’s a bit much, Apollo used to have a function to filter out keywords, subs or users and I really am missing that option.

6
lemmy.world

It’s not about the NSFW (for the most part), I really miss the ability to filter out topics, keywords, communities, or users in general.

On reddit I had a highly curated feed free of the most common karma farmers, the most obnoxious political discussions, things I found disgusting or otherwise didn’t care for, and so on. Was very good for my mental health during the trump presidency, I’m not even an American and it was impossible to avoid the latest outrage over the dumb shit he did and said on a daily basis.

You can also filter out communities and users in Lemmy ui. Keywords, not yet however

2

To be honest I have only used wefwef to access lemmy so far, I suppose I have to dig a little deeper then to find those settings. Thank you though!

No problem! It is planned to get user setting in wefwef.

Might throw a link in settings just for now 🤔

4

Glad to hear it’s planned for the future. In the mean time a link sounds like a great quick fix

1
lemmy.world

Pleasee add the ability to block or filter out communities. I want to browse All without seeing naked girls

5

I really thought I was. I updated again this morning and it’s there now. User error on my side. Awesome feature!

1

I literally commented that one of my only wants was a top of X filter. Took em like 12 hours to get it in lmfao.

5
lemmy.world

Is it possible to add haptic feedback, or is that not possible because it’s a web app?

5
Strangianreply
lemm.ee

I’m pretty sure it isn’t possible because its a webapp

3

There is support for it. Just not in Safari. Safari is the single reason why I'll never consider an iPhone until other browsers (including their engines) are allowed.

2

I’m hoping they add a feature to long press and save/copy images. Until then on IOS there is a way to hold and drag images to your photo album. Not convenient tho.

Yep, post sorting makes a big difference to how active lemmy feels

3

Finally! Thank you so much. This was the one feature that kept me from using wefwef, thank you!❤️

4

I just started using your web app. This is my favorite so fast. Great job!

3

Awesome! This was the one necessary feature that was still missing. The apps not perfect, but it's miles better than a browser.

3

I'm very happy to hear that, this is my favorite way to sort and is the main reason I wasn't using wefwef as my main app. I love how quickly development is moving for all of these apps, the rate of development is inspiring.

3

You are doing a great job and it feels good to join on here. Thank you for your hard work, transparency, and posts!

2

The part now is how doni get a feed that's just like /r/all

Mine just shows me the same stuff every time. Now I've been sorting by hot

2

Top: Hour was my default method for browsing on Apollo. So happy to have it back for Lemmy/wefwef! Top: 6 hours will be great too.

2

Thank you to all of the developers! Is there plans to add a global default sort behavior?

2
lemmy.world

I want this as an Apple app. Release it with an early lifetime membership and I’ll contribute. Just like I did with Apollo.

2

It's a PWA. This was how apps should've been, not centralized for approval from a specific store, but installed from the web. It basically has the same support for everything a native app does if the browser engine supports the API.

3

This feature already blows away Reddit’s sort, which has infuriatingly stagnant for over a decade

1
lemmy.world

I only see the top option when viewing a post. I find it more interesting to see the top posts for a community. That definitely worked in Apollo. Is that functionality coming?

1

Hi, I have really enjoyed using the app lately and I would like to ask some questions about it

Is there a way for me to set favorites communities to show in a separate list above the others in the community is page?

Also, is there a way to save a post to read it later or at the best convenient time?

Also, I noticed some thing that the first time I open the app in order to go to the communities page. I have to actually press the button at the top left of the screen while after I did it for one time I can just swipe from the left to the right to get there. Is there a way in which I can just swipe from left to right when I open the app without having to actually press the button every time I open the app to activate that function?

1

I hope some day this is available in the Play Store with a lifetime sub purchase. I love what you're doing with wefwef

1

It's a web app, just go to wefwef.app in your browser and use it from there or choose the install option to put it on your homescreen
