Me too! I pulled everything out from under our beds to vacuum and decided I hated having stuff stored under the beds. Makes it hard to vacuum the dust. So it's been lined up one side of the hallway for weeks while I very occasionally chip away at it, which is also making it hard to vacuum 🤦🏻‍♀️But the coffee and shortbread session #2 is underway lol.

Nice haul! Cheaper Buy Miles? They had 1kg wheels of brie for $15 yesterday and people were buying them 2 at a time, as fast as they could restock. Was sorely tempted.

It is indeed CBM, so this pile cost less than some single blocks! Missing a good stinky cheddar and maybe some spreadable goat, but otherwise sorted for the whole party season 😺

That place is a goldmine of inexpensive goods! I bought some relish there for $1 a jar, and the Bonne Maman was I think 2ish dollars a jar! Yass!

I'm gonna be cooking a chooko in the airfryer using native herbs and spices. Please pray for it to be juicy and tender.

11
aussie.zone

Every piece of chicken I have done in the air fryer has turned out great. I think the high convection makes the cooking more even and avoids some of the over cooked dried out spots that can occur in a normal oven.

Legend, that's gonna taste awesome! Lemon myrtle is I think one of my most favourite flavours ever. One place I worked at years ago made chicken and lemon myrtle Boscastle style pies swoon

I'd like to give thanks to all those workmen out there who don't remove all their signs when they finish work. My cherry tomatoes are being supported on stakes supplied by Yarra Valley Water, my raspberries have a trellis made from a sign from an unknown road contractor, and the same sign provided corflute panels which are protecting the fence from built up garden beds.

It's my second last night out here before I return to Melbourne. A beautiful cool day and as the sun sets I can hear the lyre birds making their laser gun/magpie/alarm noises and feel an immense sense of peace.

Sadly, I did not finish off the last bit of outstanding work due to patchy internet and no electricity in the cabin (and, tbh, not being remotely in the mood for it while away). But I'm starting to see a way forward where I can finish it off when I get back with a sense of positivity and appreciation and relief at completing this part of life, rather than resentment and aversion and anxiety because I didn't finish it on time.

Happened a few years back but, just now reading about a school lunch chef in Nebraska fired for adding kangaroo meat to the chilli.

What was the complaint? People don't want to unknowingly eat roo? I doubt whatever it replaced was legally classifiable as meat anyway.

1

Yeah the roo was too “exotic” for the school lunch program and therefore unsuitable.

Basically just ignorance about the product. Which is ironic for a learning institution.

Apologies in advance, but the Lemmy upgrade appears to have broken the bot's ability to post - it is trying, but it can't actually connect to any communities for some reason. ☹️

If one of the nightowls could make a post at midnight that would be great - we can declare it "Manual Monday" and I can poke at the programming tomorrow when I have had some sleep.

6
aussie.zone

I did have to sign in again so maybe. Wasn’t there some sort of lemmy update?

2
aussie.zone

There were initially issues with logging in, but I got that sorted out. IIt's now giving an error message when trying to connect to the individual communities, so something may have changed there. None of the other community bots seem to have posted daily threads today, so I guess it's not just my dodgy bot having issues with the change. The last major upgrade to Lemmy made some API changes that broke a lot of things, so it is definitely possible they have done the same again.

I was hoping to get some working code for the post sorted out today (based on working code from other communities) and then work on the cron stuff to trigger it (standby for questions regarding that, I am likely to have some!). But it is likely to take longer if everyone's bots are having the same issue.

1

The good news is I think I've fixed the logon/community connection problem. The bad news is I think I broke the part of the code that does the actual posting, so while I'm not getting any messages now it's also just not doing anything!

1

my old ID and password wouldn’t even work, this is a new account

Oh my golly gee gosh moses. That was the most juiciest chook I've ever eaten. Even the breasts which I usually avoid. Time for a nap.

"Th Lost City" was bloody awful. What a waste of time

Brad Pitt's 5 minute cameo showed he really is good. A few of the jungle scenes were pretty.

I give this movie 1/2 hobbits , for Brad Pitt and the jungle.

If you want a similar but good adventure movie that is fun to watch Romancing the Stone on Disney.

So why did this movie stink? The world view stunk. No one is nice, no one has good intentions, there was no one to identify with, and the shit the main characters did was just too unbelievable. The dialogue stunk and was delivered poorly.

5

Was a little bit of a unremarkable movie from what I remember when I saw it.

I watched Rush (2013) last night.

I enjoyed it for what it is despite not knowing anything about F1 history.

I’m not good at deep dives into evaluating movies.

Wash all windows inside and out✅

Not bad considering we drank all manner of weird liquids last night at the neighborhood Xmas party. Peach schnapps? Limoncello? Peanut butter whiskey and some crazy Croation plum hooch? Had to rescue MrsGod from curling up and sleeping on the front lawn.🥴🫡

Here's the brandy sauce for xmas pud recipe. You can always add more brandy of course

Can't go wrong with Delia

https://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/occasions/christmas/christmas-puddings/delias-classic-christmas-pudding-with-brandy-sauce

For the brandy sauce: 11/2oz (40g) butter 2 tablespoons brandy 11/2oz (40g) plain flour 10fl oz (300ml) whole milk 11/2oz (40g) golden caster sugar 4fl oz (110ml) double cream Place butter in a medium saucepan with the flour, pour in the milk then, using a balloon whisk, whisk everything vigorously together over a medium heat. As soon as it comes to simmering point and has thickened, turn the heat right down to its lowest setting, stir in the sugar and let the sauce cook for 10 minutes. After that add the brandy and the cream. Pour the hot sauce into a jug, then cover the surface with clingfilm and keep warm until required.

4

Not sure exactly why I’ve done this but I’ve gone back and pulled out some old Xbox 360 games and ps3 games and looking to play through through them.

Have a wide range of choice but felt like trying out Red Dead Redemption via backwards compatibility and maybe Ex Troopers and GTA4.

I did tons of gardening today and now I'm exhausted. I still need to make dinner, but I am seriously lacking the energy. Some days I could really do with a wife 🤣

I washed the house today. The outside of the house. I did not know that was a part of home ownership. Looks good though.

Street Christmas party was today, so I made my home made chicken nuggets and they were a hit! Jerboa was working fine for me until this lemmy update and now it's gone a bit psycho on me. I'm using my browser, with fewer issues, but still a bit janky. One of the elderly ladies has sold her house to move into a retirement village, and it's been bought by a family and not a developer thank goodness. Mr P was quite the party animal and is now indulging in whisky sours with the young renters a few doors down. 🥴

Anyone got a rock solid white sauce recipe for Christmas pudding?

Keep it clean, you heathens.

2

I only know ‘white sauce’ as a savory thing, it’s another name for bechamel. Goes in lasagne, not on pudding. Did you mean white chocolate sauce?

3
aussie.zone

Brandy butter right?.... Search for that and you should get some good results. My grandma used to make a great one, only thing I know that was in it though was a hell of a lot of brandy

1

Awesome day out there. I got some really good gardening work done. I need some more mulch but there is no way I am going anywhere near Bunnings on a day like today, so that will have to wait until tomorrow.

I love how Youtube keeps pulling down videos of shows that are free to air reruns... that's still not going to make me pay for a streaming service or buy another tv.

PF logistics was the company that my very slow package of ribbon came through. It got here in the end, but well past the time-frame of when it was supposed to.

2

I'm pretty sure Officeworks have their own delivery drivers. That's also why they can use less packaging, they can ensure their drivers move the parcels like a normal person instead of using them to play football with.

I despise wrapping, I'm terrible at it and I can either pay someone to do it for me or I can add gift bags to my shopping list

i am bored enough that i offer my service, for a meal and conversation while i do it

6

Gift bags are your solution. Can get them cheap at the discount variety stores. I reuse them too, if I ever get any given to me. Just make sure to cut the tag off!

5
aussie.zone

Contact your nearest shopping centre they normally do it. Probably a bit out of the way for the city folk but the Salvos are definitely wrapping gifts at Forest Hill Chase for a goldie.

Some shoppings centres offer gift wrapping services but you’ll need to find out if they offer it from wherever you want to do it.

What is Sunbury like to live in? Epping?

Trying to find housing that is more suitable for me and heard about some accessible options but I really don’t know the reputations of the areas now. Sorry not sure which parts of those suburbs it’s in

1

I haven't been to Sunbury since the late 90s but I'd excpect a little gentrifiy and a little stabby. I think Epping is hilly with a lot of bush this fire risk. I'd go to Epping if I didn't have to attend a place of work.

2
aussie.zone

Have lived in the outer west and north, but not those suburbs specifically. They are both working class suburbs, generally people with middle to lower income. Due to the socioeconomics you might encounter some people with issues. But you can have meth junkies in south Yarra too, and I would say I’ve have way more of those encounters in the inner city than I have ever seen in the suburbs. The suburbs are quiet places where people mostly keep to themselves. As for amenities, I guess it depends what you need. There’s not lots of restaurants or hipster cafes or micro breweries. Because it’s lower density living there’s a a good chance you’ll need to drive to get to supermarket etc. But if those things are ok for you there’s no reason to not live there. The stabiness is greatly exaggerated.

2

Thanks, that sounds mildly promising at least. I'm looking for somewhere safe-ish where I won't be having close encounters of the turd kind
