That message from Toto seemed like a polite way of saying “shut the f up and drive”

24

The radio messages they choose really aren’t that flattering. I’m more annoyed at the TV direction ignoring other driver radios in favor of hamilton complaining

10

I think the radio messages that get played make a lot of the drivers sound a bit whiny.

Really nice fight between sainz and perez! I’m digging the new cars feels like they can fight each other more.

17

It's great to see how close they can follow! I wonder how it would have looked if DRS wasn't a factor.

Absolutely terrible. Great driving from Sainz to recover what he could though.

9

I’m a little sad that McLaren doesn’t appear to be quite up to Ferrari but glad that Norris seems to be solidifying best of the rest especially in a car that has so far this season been all around not great

Verstappen getting heat in the tires in front of Leclerc, lol

Toto Wolff: "We know that the car is slow, just drive it"

11

Another VER win but he had to work for it a little. PER managing a very good damage limitation drive in ending up on the podium

Ferrari pulling off a double podium could have been a dream come true given where the team was a few weeks back. Alas, it was not to be. 2-4 is not a bad weekend though is it? If they can get strategy sorted out, the car seems to be getting there but tyre deg is still a touch too high.

NOR killing it today and putting that McLaren on the map yet again. PIA needs to step up or we will be talking about him getting replaced soon. I know he doesn’t have the upgrades this race but ending up rock bottom when your teammate rakes in points is not a good look.

ALO having a very lonely race but scoring some much needed points. STR just squeaking in a point was nice but he can and should be doing better.

HAM struggling quite a bit today while RUS seemed more comfortable with the car. But the car seemed to be genuinely struggling at this track. Let’s see what the British isles look like for this team next week.

GAS doing quite well to clock 2 points for the team. Too bad OCO could not be bullheaded enough to get some points today.

ALB and SAR having very good runs, a nice change for SAR huh? The Williams is easily the best if the rest at this point.

ZHO and BOT doing their usual thing. BOT getting squeezed at the start again and ZHO ending up ahead of him but not too far ahead.

DEV outperformed TSU today, a much needed performance but I am afraid it had more to do with TSU losing it rather than DEV rising to the occasion. Doubt it will cut much ice with Helmut.

MAG the lone Haas in the fight today and there’s not much good to tell. The car is a shitbox and there don’t seem to be signs of improvement.

Very thrilling race. 8.5/10.

9

Really nice to see these McLaren improvements. I hope the performance translates to other tracks. It will be great to Lando potentially fighting for podiums.

And that's why yuki isn't replacing checo anytime soon

8
lemmy.world

I can't believe they're pitting for the fastest lap! What a risk, and its not like they really need the point.

8
lemmy.world

If they told him no, Max would have come in and forced the stop, guaranteed.

5
feddit.de

That would have lost him the race. They wouldnt have been ready and that would have cost the 4 seconds he was in front of leclerc after the stop

2

Go on the radio like "Coming in, be ready". You really think, they'd not be ready? Of course they'd be ready.

3

He definitely would have wanted to! Max shows up to every session with the desire and means to dominate.

2
lemmy.world

They need to update their TV graphics to show all the track limits penalties.

7

I don't get why they don't have a little "+5s" tag next to the driver's name. It's common in most other series.

Does anyone have the weather predictions?

6

My app on Samsung predicted possible thunderstorms, but it looks mostly overcast and mid-20 degrees.

2
lemmy.world

Not strictly race related, but taking part in a live discussion thread on Lemmy is miserable. It's way too slow to reload, and when you do it forgets that you want it ordered by new.

4

Lemmy.world is struggling to keep up with the Reddit refugees. They ran into a lot of scaling issues last night and are working with temporary load balancing and a lot of behind the scenes stuff.

It should get better over the next few weeks as some stability work is done to the backend.

I'm a Reddit refugee as well. Could you please explain what does it mean that you have your own instance? Does it mean that posts and our comments are stored somewhere on your side as well, and that's why it's working good for you?

1
feddit.de

Lemmy is build from many instances like lemmy.world, lemmy.ml, feddit.de, kbin.social and whatever. They are all interconnected and are mirroring communities from other instances on their own. And some instance are more overcroweded than others right now. I dont really get why it runs smoother to access this post from feddit, since I thought mirroring is bound to the same performance issues. But apparently not

4
programming.dev

Yeah I have an account on lemmy.world and programming.dev and for some reason interacting with communities from lemmy.world is faster when I'm on the .dev instance...

1

Earlier it updated with new posts automatically without needing to reload browser. Probably they turned it off temporarily with the big migration of reddit users.

1
feddit.de

I mean the viewers are frustrated with the dominance. I cant imagine how it is when you dedicate your life to it and then you are uncompetitive

2

So here we go. The quick lap times also brings backmarkers into play which can help mix things up.

4
lemmy.world

They should do something about this turn 10, all these penalties are ridiculous...

3
bhmnscmmreply
lemmy.world

Agreed. Staying within the white lines is well within every driver's ability. Although I think it would be better to design a "penalty" into the track (gravel, grass, etc.).

2
feddit.de

Its easier to design a penalty into the track than just brake a bit harder or turn a bit more? Grass or Graveltraps are hard to design since so many things like safety, other series need to be taken into account. Also it reduces the kind of corners you can do if white lines arent worth anything

1

It's not necessarily easier to design in a deterrent, but I think it results in more entertaining racing. All things equal I would prefer to not watch racing "evened out" with time penalties. You're completely right about it not being feasible in every corner though.

1

That RB DRS comes open and the car gets a whole lot visibly faster. Holy shit

3
lemmy.world

A little bit earlier I complained about this season not being exciting, but damn, this race is actually good and fun to watch. We know who's going to win, but p2 and p3 are I think open for anybody, given the amount of penalties.

I hope my boy Lando ends in p2!

3

Seeing a 4 way fight between Mercedes, Ferrari, AM, and McLaren! It's so competitive and exciting if you look past Redbull!

4

The number of mixed up drivers in penalties has been ridiculous. They showed Gasly being investigated for Ocon's unsafe release and Hulk getting a track limits warning after retiring.

1

Unlucky for the Ferraris, the VSC came when they passed the pit entry. Then Sainz losing 3 places after the doublestack.

3

What a fun race so far. Too bad the server is struggling, taking a long time to post today.

2

He also doesn’t have the upgrades that have been added to Norris’ car iirc

3

Broke his front wing when Magnussen was forced to stop on the apex. Been struggling ever since.

1

Disappointing for Stroll starting in front of Alonso on the grid, and still ending up far behind him. Did something happen?

2

Please let the McLaren upgrades translate to decent race pace at Silverstone - I live in hope...

2

Really nice fight between sainz and perez! I’m digging the new cars feels like they can fight each other more.

2

I'm happy that Charles gets a podium again but I wonder how Ferrari will improve enough to be competitive next year.

2

I hate that even the commentators cant think of drivers just not going to the absolute limit of the white line. Then its also not marginal...

1

Perez should have got P2 here really - would be interesting to hear his radio on the DRS and the initial pitstop call

1

Cherry on top with RB pitting MV on 70. Went out of their way with risk just to get an extra point. Grid is no longer challenging enough, they have to set their own objectives now.

Great race for Norris though! Really hoping McLaren upgrades hold up for the rest of the season.

1

That was a fun race, good points for Lando, redemption for checo. Great weekend overall

1

He was clearly faster than Lec in the first and second stints, and yet Ferrari just let him keep station while both their drivers fell back from Ver.

1

They should just introduce the longlap system. Turn one even has the long lap penalty from motogp

1

Absolutely amazing drive by Lando there, it's nice to see the upgrades bringing him back somewhat into the fray. Hopefully that continues through the season

1

Especially when he admits he’s having control problems. Like, you think they’re being unfair to you when you admit you’re off the track? Chill out.
