Recommending Matrix instead of Discord as a federated, open source community/chat solution :)

I’ve made accounts there but have never really used them. Not against it, just don’t get it.
Live chat is just sometimes more convenient than a chain of thirty replies for a conversation. But I was just asking if something already existed, just in case.
