Just out of curiosity: Which trolley parking space is more dirty and f* up over there? Lidl's or Aldi's?
Here in Germany I would guess it's Lidl's almost every time, and regular cleaning at almost every Aldi.
Sometimes, when I'm not in a rush I go full chaotic good and use my trolley key to release a load of them. I like to pay back from the times in the past when I didn't have a coin handy.
Here in the US they give you the cart behind the till and you leave yours for the next person, so how does it work with tokens, are you like "no I gotta keep this cart, we bonded"?
You put a £1 coin in, you get a trolley, when you're finished and put it back you get your £1 again. If you leave your trolley somewhere without putting it away you lose your £1 and whoever decides to grab it gets a free £1.
Ah right ok. Yeah, that's one of those cultural differences here, you technically can do that, but you'd have to speak up at several points during the whole ordeal to avoid swapping. Going on ten years here but I'm still a true Brit who won't say shit.

Our local Asda has recently reinstated all the £1 locks again. I guess trolley theft has been increasing.
The £1 lock is just to get people to put the trolleys back, not really a theft deterrent
Put the trolleys back; i.e. not steal them
More like to give them back as not leaving them in a middle of the store or park space

In my experience in my specific part of England that holds true - Aldi definitely seems a lot cleaner
Apparently Aldi doesn’t do the thing there where they make you insert a 25c deposit?
Yeah they do,( look for the "key" chains in the pic), it's a pound coin but you can get pound size tokens on Amazon

Ah, I see now. Ha, that much? I guess the US is lucky the the highest denomination coin in common use is the quarter.

I get that, but here in the US you always end up walking out with a different trolley to the one you walk in with.
Ok, and I just told you in the UK how it's done and that you don't do that. You don't swap, you keep it until you return it yourself outside.
